Jax' L99 F350 7.3L Truck rebuild . . . .

Greetings, all;

I have been looking for a HD - any make - to pull a bigger travel trailer but all I find is a lot of people too super-proud of their vehicles with 200k+ mileage. Therefore, I bought this to build my own - the engine is a literal basket case...

1999 FORD F-350 SD LARIAT Ext Cab LWB 2WD
7.3L V8 OHV 16V Powerstroke . . . Orig mileage 245083
5 speed 6 speed manual transmission

I want to build the entire power train - I suspect the rear is not limited slip - and want to fix everything Ford did not do right when it was built. I want to make it as efficient as possible in AZ's 120F heat to the northern regions.

I have rebuilt small block chevys, two motorcycle engines, but this is my first time on Ford and rebuilding a diesel (although I have worked on them).

Thank you all for all the wisdom posted on this website.

Best recommendations for aftermarket upgrades?

Dang, were you on the line?

We were parking right on the center Line of Totality, in Kerrville, Texas. Exit 501.

Not quite in the center, but close enough. It was pretty cool. Stopped at a bunch of places on the way down just in case the weather didn't behave.

It seems like the beast is developing high EGTs more often.
Almost 30K on the engine.

Is there something that might cause that?

Air filter is what’s causing mine right now. Do any of your boost numbers look funky? Is there any junk infront of your intercooler?

I was working during the eclipse. Fortunately I was in the totality line in Castroville. Unfortunately it was cloudy.

I hate dumbasses! Seriously! Especially when you know damn well how it should have gone.

Bought new pigtail for the Beast. The first thing that bitch should've done would be to check that the pigtail plug fitted its intended use. But did she? Noooo - - -

Beautiful job taking the harness apart, cleaning it up re-wrapping with new wire loom and such; soldered and marked extension wires on the harness, and wrapped it all up nice and tidy.

And the ****ing plug was not right.

ARRGHHH! I'm gonna fire that bitch - no, really - screw up just one more time . . . .

Sounds so much better when you fall on your sword than when I do it. I have alot to learn from you!

Okay, update - This AC has been quitting on me for a couple of years. That pigtail is a bona fide Motorcraft bought from the local Ford dealer.

In other words, the pigtail plug has been crap since purchased. You can't even trust Ford any more.

But, AC works and it will chase you out of the truck.

Did you install the Range Mod valve to stop the hot water from circulating through the heater core while on MAX AC or OFF? I did earlier this week and..... i THINK it has made the AC colder in the truck.... only way to know if it is my medicine giving me heat waves or the environment, would have been for me to take a temp sample, otherwise, I don't know if it made a difference. I am sure where you are, you would notice pretty quickly as hot as it gets there.

We never say it enough, so I am saying it again --

THANK YOU to all you folks on here. You have helped me So Much, taught me about my truck, and I couldn't have rebuilt it without you.

I am considering similar as I do not want the oil misting back into my system either. After replacing oil swollen boots, cleaning out intercooler and the mess it causes, I did the dog house mod to open air. Not the best imho, but a catchcan would be my solution too. Watching too Jax.

Good morning, PSN!

Had a crank-no start. Danged if I was going to come in here and ask. . . . Kept trying different things. "Something" was draining the batteries. I charged them to full before every try.

Accidently left the charger on 100A when I went into the house for more coffee and a bio break. Puttered around and was back out after about 40 minutes. . . Yikes!

Beast turned over and started like normal. I have a bad battery . . .

I have mine on a NOCO maintainer and find the slow/no crankcase issue to be resolved, if only temporarily for now. My batteries are 3+ years old now so it is about replacement time. Just trying to get the most outta my dollar. Costco/Interstate replacements are where I will be going for new ones.

Glad you found the issue Jax.

I prefer the Interstate but I had the two in the Pig go south after 36 months . . . No bueno.

These two in the Beast -I don't remember where I got them. One bad, the other insufficient charge to check. Charged overnight, and will take it to be retested.

Hi, all!

I blame @cfherrman for finding this:
