Which starter?

Truck's been getting harder to start and cranking slower and longer, figure I'm due for a new starter. Saw the post's for db electric hi torque gear reduction, reviews are mixed. Price is nice though. Also thought about an a/c delco thru rockauto for a 03 superduty. Any preference or input on which one, or another starter?

DB Electric has gone down hill the last few years with their Chinese knock offs.

Pick up a starter for a 99+ year truck at your local auto parts store. It only has 2 bolts but will bolt right in. You will need to enlarge one eyelet on the wiring to make it work.

Try 2002-2003 7.3 for the two bolt mount SD starter. Need a 6mm nut for the larger stud on the SD starter. Also need to ream out the wire lug a bit to fit the larger stud.

Some 2001 starter numbers are two bolt and some are the older three bolt starters. You want the faster cranking later two bolt mount starters so ask for a 2002-2003 7.3 starter.

In most cases you get what you pay for. The best out there in my opinion is the Denso 228000-8420 if I couldn't find that one I would go with a PowerMaster 9051. Also in my opinion a lifetime warranty is not worth the paper that it is written on if the part fails you when you are not in a location to replace it or out in the sticks hoping that the piece of paper that it is written on will start your truck.

Typically lifetime warranty parts aren't as good as those with a lesser warranty.

The parts stores are banking that you won't continue to replace them as they go bad, but switch to something else.

I won't buy anything with AutoZone's "duracrap" house label on it and stick with NAPA, OEM, or CARQUEST for parts.

go with the denso starter like bugman said, thats the one ive got makes a world of difference, make sure all your grounds and posisitve cable ends are good and clean/ tight. one bad connection can cause alot of greif starting

If you are noticing that it's cranking slower I would first check all your battery cables, connections and condition of the batteries before replacing the starter.
Then if you still have a problem the other guys gave you some good advice for a new starter.
