Yes, a little.

Jody changed my transmission strategy to PMT1 IIRC because it has better control over the shifting and converter lock up.

It's programing that is different.

 

I believe Jody bases most, if not all, of his automatic tunes off PMT1. But they share next to nothing in common with the stock PMT1. Not sure what he uses for the man trans trucks.

 

The "hardware" for 94.5-97 trucks is different than that of 99-03 trucks. But within those 2 groups, the only difference that is specific to each PCM code, is programming.

 

If you look on the tag that's on the front connector you will find another code on it. DPC-422, DPC-432, DPC-431, DPC-421 ect. and the PMT1, PMT2 NVH4 ect. The first code is the hardware used in the PCM and the second set is the software code. So All ECM's donot interchange but some do. Put automatic code into a manual transmission ECM get some funny results in one and works in other one. It's best to stick with the proper DPC- xxx and the proper PMT code that belongs in it.

 

So long as you put a SD auto PCM back in place of another SD auto ECM you will be fine.

Same goes for a OBS. Use a OBS auto PCM in place of a like ECM.

If you HAVE to have a like PCM/chip order a new PCM from Jody and have him put a stock XXXX code in it and he'll write the chip to work with that ECM.

if you put an early 99 pcm in you may not be so happy...
then again you pretty much don't want anything from an early 99 except rods maybe...lol

 

Thanks for all the replies. I'm just trying to understand some of the method to ford's madness. I sent out my pcm so i was sure that the program would be written after looking at what was in my truck from ford. it shouldd be coming back tomorrow with a 60hp tow program on it.

 

You sent it out with DAC2 on it but I'm sure it will come back with DAC3 as the base for your 60tow. That is exactly what I have on my PCM. DAC3 is pretty popular for the manny trannies.

 

I just got my PCM back and took my truck for a ride. Jody worked his magic and the thing is awesome. Everybody has been right, all it takes is some computer tuning to wake these things up. It runs 100% better and flies now. I really can't wait to put in my regulated return kit to really quiet the engine down and help fuel the injectors better. Whatever Jody did with the fuel curve is awesome lots of bottom end now
