did the MTG help with the rollover noise at all?!?!

I put regular valvoline Merc5 spec when i changed mine a month ago. Shifts like ####.

Should I run Amsoil MTG or MTF!?!?!?! Ugh.

Man, everyone was telling to run synth ATF. Then i talked to a tranny tech. He said the ATF is too thin and too slippery to let the syncros engage fully.

The thicker gear oil slows them down just enough to bite. Also, He told me the gear oil takes the heat way better than the ATF.

I wouldn't use the MTF. It's a light duty oil.

The MTG made mine shift like butter. It also made my T-case shift much better. Before, with the ATF, the T-case didn't want to engage. Now i have no problems.

This stuff is good for cold temps? Say -40?

Gonna bump this question. As I'll be refilling my trans this weekend and want to know if Amsoil will handle extreme colds. Amsoil site says nothing.
On the Amsoil page for Manual Syncromesh Trans fluid here if you scroll down to the stats the cold pour point is -49 degrees or -45 c. I think that should handle any cold weather you can throw at it here in the states.

VERY IMPRESSED!

Truck shifts like BUTTER!
i know this thread is old but have been wondering how well the amsoil manual trans/gear lube is working out?

I know I put 75-90 gear oil in my 89 F-150 5 speed that spec'd ATF, shifted great for about 10k miles then the syncros went out, coincidence?

In something that calls for ATF I would not use the MTG which is a 75W-90 gear oil. I would go with the MTF which is a 5W-30 trans fluid. Its thicker but more like ATF that the MTG is.

How many miles did the truck have on it prior to changing fluids? And did you use GL-5 or GL-4? Synchromesh transmissions use GL-4. Because GL-5 contains sulfur, which eats away at the brass synchromesh. And the 5 speed in those older Ford trucks is a Japanese design Mazda transmission. So Lord knows what kind of stuff is goin on inside there.
