I have an 02 F250 Automatic and I was thinking about getting a chip from Power Hungry. What HP level program is the best all around for daily driving (something that get good fuel economy and is fun as hell to drive)?
Finally what is the make HP program you can get by with on a PMR truck??
The last thing I want is to blow my truck up.
Here is a listof Mods:
Factory tech valve body.
Walker BTM musffler
Tymer intake.
Gauges.

Well they are good, are said to be the best, but right now they are very buisy with everyone getting programs made. Since yours will be a generic tune it shouldnt take long at all or much time at all. Mine is taking much longer with more trial and error because of my mods though.... i got her ready to go now just waiting on the tunes to come back again. I have heard you can get by with less than 400 rwhp on a pmr engine, mine used to be but i went ahead and switched to forged when i rebuilt it for the hell of it. I wont be making over 375 rwhp in mine and i wanted forged. I would stick with getting there 6 pos chip and get the fuel sipper,a tow program and the 120 race(its fun and has plenty smoke. They have a few more options to fill up the rest of the switch also.

Best bet is to ask Bill at PHP. I had many of the same questions and went with the 50hp and 80hp programs and the whisper mode. I like the chip and the power is very smooth, which makes accelerating in a 6spd stock-like, only quicker. The 120 would be higher than I would go with a PMR engine like ours.

I have the settings listed in my sig. Truck usually doesn't leave 80hp, great tune for daily driving.

Take the time to get ahold of Bill, great guy and he will take the time to listen to your concerns and explain them to you. His tunes will be safe for your application, and you won't believe how much smoother, even in stock, your motor runs.

:whs: With a good tuner like Bill you will be ok with what ever tunes you get. When you start adding power like injectors is when you run into problems with PMR's

We have a lot of folks that run the 80 HP program for a daily driver and either 100 HP or 120 HP for playing around. The programs for the '02/'03 7.3L are solid, time proven programs that have a over 6 years and millions of miles behind them.

In general:

40 HP - Good for moderately heavy towing.
65 HP - Light towing and daily driving.
80 HP - Daily driving and light play.
100 HP - Daily driving and aggressive play.
120 HP - Aggressive play.

It is our standing opinion that power levels over 100 HP are best left to forged rod engines. We have many reasons for it, but mostly it is simply that our goal is to provide safe, reliable performance increases.

Thanks to everyone for chiming in. We really appreciate your support. :)

Hope this helps.

I'm confused, I didn't think that you could chuck a rod with stock fuel? Even with the stock injectors maxed out, you're not going to make more than like 300-315ish, right? Has anyone done it?

I'm really not trying to question you Bill, just trying to get educated, thanks.

yeah kinda like i thought that on a 7.3 the stock headgaskets with stock headbolts could handle 40 psi of boost, but guess what mine let go at 35psi. so theres always a chance...

When he gets back, I have another question for Bill:
Unloaded on the highway, which program is expected to give better mpg, 80 or 100hp? Which will be better for interstate, unloaded mpg? Thanks

So basically if you want more than 100hp gain out of a PMR truck you need to put in small hybrids and tune for them to keep the timing down to get a higher more safer HP level?

That's the deal. A good set of injectors and a turbo that will move enough air should get you into the 360-400 HP range, all with safe timing and ICP. In most cases, 2800 to 3000 PSI ICP is all you really need to get good fuel spray and volume. Of course, every injector has its own tuning needs and sometimes there are other mechanical limitations that must be overcome as well.

Take care.
