Poor Turning Radius

Is there anything that can be done to improve the turning radius on 02 F350 7.3 Crew Cab. Takes a dang football field to turn. Parking is just WELL the pits

My dads 2012 had an even tighter turning radius than his 07 with the same wheelbase and cab configuration. Dunno what they changed though.

Shamu has the worst turning radius I've ever been in, and am in the process of making a longer pitman arm to aid in a little tighter turning, without maxing out u joints.

you need to see how close the tires are to rubbing the leaf springs at full lock to see if that is possible. Maybe if you got rims that moved the tires out further from the leaf springs. Coil spring front ends can have more rotation because you don't have the leaf spring in the way.

You just get used to parking in the sticks away from everyone else, you get used to finding another way to get down town, you get used to no U-Turns unless in the middle of a six lane intersection. Just pretend you are driving a Peterbuilt every where.

I think my 97 7.3 rclb turns just as fast as my 15 6.7 cclb. Either way I can make a left/right where others can make a U turn lol. Both are 4 turns lock to lock but the 7.3 rubs on the front leaf springs already so there is no room to gain there... It's just the nature of the beast, big trucks do the same things as smaller vehicles with just a much larger area.

I will say that the 6.7 turns easily for it's size. People who ride with me for the first time or two are like you'll never fit this there, and I just do it without hesitation, you get used to driving 23' around when you have to do it all the time.

I know switching to the coil fronts aids a lot of items but I'm not sure if that's the only reason it improved the newer trucks turning radius.

The newer trucks have a different length pitman arm and different shape u joints in the axle, so they can get more steering angle than they could back in the day, so they're able to steer farther, without maxing out any angles, or reducing life of parts.

They're trying to compete with an IFS (chevy) too, which turns (and rides) way better than a Solid Axle ever will.

To be honest with you, both my CCLB 05 6.0 and my 02 have chitty turning radius. I thought the 05 with the d60 will improve my turning radius but it hasn’t. If I want to make a u-turn, it had better be three lanes. Not all three lanes are the same width either. The best turning radius would have to be my 02 SCLB.
