PHP Hydra Chip Questions-Comments

I received my PHP Hydra Chip and I have some questions and comments. I purchased it from Aligator Performance and was quite happy with their customer service for ordering the chip. They did not have the USB extension cables but I was able to buy the extension cable through them in one order and it is supposed to be drop shipped from PHP (though I haven’t received any confirmation yet)

I thought the Hydra was supposed to come with a USB stick for the software and it came with a CD disk, so I had to dig out my old laptop with a dvd drive that I was glad I still had.

There were no written instructions whatsoever in the box, so I kinda stumbled upon what to do with Youtube and digging around the supplied CD disk

It would be nice to have at least a one page written “Start Here…” set of instructions.

I kind of stumbled onto inserting my computer’s NMC1 PCM code to get the hex code VRAA6N3

After visiting YouTube University, I was able to program my chip and I loaded up about seven tunes from the VRAA6N3 list – It would be nice if after I install my hex code if it only showed the tunes available for that particular hex code instead of scrolling all the way down through the various sets of codes.

There are 15 spots and I think the default position (0?) is stock? Is that correct?
And is the number 17 position (which is unprogramable) the “No Start” tune?

I cannot get my list of tunes to print out no matter what I hit, the print button, Ctl-P etc. And yes the printer works.

I still have an Edge Attitude w/Juice setup installed on the truck, which doesn’t SEEM to be doing anything. Can I just leave it hooked up, set to Zero and use the old monochromatic gauges? (Boost, EGR etc) I do also have a set of pillar gauges that has Boost and EGTs in the truck. Our should I yank it all the way out?

I was going to wait for a couple of weeks until a buddy gets his new chassis dyno setup, but now I am itching to install my new little green toy!!

Let me know how everything works out. I should be receiving my Hydra on Monday from Alligator Performance.

The no start will show up as "ns" on the digital display once the chip is hooked up for it to work you have to set is to ns then turn the truck off. Same thing for it to go into the 00 stock bypass. Set the chip to 00 with the truck running then turn it off. To get it out of 00 you will have to start the truck change the number of tune on the chip then #### the truck off again to get it back into a tuning level. For this reason I made slot 01 stock. I use it when it snows for not so agressive throttle response.

Remove edge with attitude leave pillar gauges. Edge attitude needed with engine sensors even though you don't think it is.

Over time you will remember where the tunes are on the chip. It really only takes about a week. Plug it in and play. You'll have fun. Don't wait for a dyno. Dynos are disappointing anyway.

The one thing everyone says is about there being no simple paper instructions. All the directions are on that disc they're just harder to find than a piece of paper would be. You have no idea how many people I have had to help through this the first time.

'stock' or 'bypass'?
if you made '1' a bypass, how does one do that?

my truck has an Edge flash in it so I think bypass would be my 'smoke' tune

The written instructions are on PHP's website

It would be nice to have at least a one page written “Start Here…” set of instructions.

If there was one page that said "Start Here..." then no one would read any of the prior information such as warnings...

The answers I know for sure are in red above. As far as figureing out problems check Power Hungry Perfomance's website and forum, emailing your question to them would be my next step, and if all else fails call them. I had an issue with my old FU chip when I got it from them at midnight mountain time, Bill replied almoast immediately with the answer.

Yeah as long as you can get ahold of Bill, he is great help. Called him with an issue on my truck and he called write away and helped me get it straight. Just my luck my GPR went bad right when I installed the chip.
Yes the directions are on the site, but I also would have liked to have a set of paper instructions. I live in BFE and internet isn't always that reliable.
Throw the chip in and pull the edge stuff out, then prepair for a big smile.

I believe he is referring to optional extension USB.

No, I thought that the software was supposed to come on a USB stick, it didn't, it came on a CD

I did buy the optional USB extension, but that comment was about the USB stick.

I could have used my other computer. When I get back to it, I will see if I can download the HydraFlash software on my other computer.

The cd is the replacement for the USB thumb drive. Both have the same info. I didn't use either. Can download hydra flash right off php's website and then tune as needed.

Oh and I have an extra USB extension cord if anyone is interested in one.

Mine came with a thumb drive that I loaded the PHP onto my wife's laptop, then plugged my laptop into the chip and loaded just about every tune possible too play with.

If you are still having issue's, go over to Powerstroke.org and pm Jay (chatham036) that goes straight too his phone, he will get you hooked up

I didn't have any real issues other than I was expecting (and would rather have) the USB thumb drive and the lack of ANY written instructions. That and I can't get the "Print" function to work.

I have loaded six or seven tunes, received the USB extension cable and will install the chip next week now that I am done with my new lift (for now). I have decided to just remove the Edge/Juice system to eliminate any potential problems. I also need to trace down why my batteries seem to be discharging

Got mine installed Thursday. I just installed the supplied USB cable, don't really see the need for the extra cable. My PCM is a PMT2, there was enough tunes to select from to fill all 15 spots. Pretty impressive. The 65 Daily blows away the 120 performance tune that was on the BullyDog Power Pup that came with the truck. The 140 Extreme will put my transmission out of its misery for sure.(Its already tired)

Not FAIR! You got yours in before mine! But now that my lift is done and I have received my USB extension, I am going to pull out my Edge/Juice and get to installing my Hydra

Glad to hear that you like it. I have both of the 65 hp tunes on my chip along with a few others.

We're you able to use the "Print" function?

Do you have a phone with a notes section? Use that for now. You will learn where they are quickly. I promise. Especially the ones you use often. The only slots I have to look up now are the towing slots. Don't worry about the print function.

I didn't try to print. I just put all tunes available so I could try them out. I'll weed out the one I don't like and then put a little more thought into their position in a few weeks.

How did you get it green now. Geeze. I would love to have mine something other than bright azz red.

Have you tried any of the multiple ways they leave to get in touch with them. Pms or their page on forums pm jay pm bill. Their company emails. Calling is how I usually do it and I get through not with every call, but by the time I'm done using my phone I've gotten my issue resolved. I don't get how people have such a hard time with this chit. I'm sure they will send you a new switcher if you ask. They're not a terrible company when it comes to those things.
