PHP ficm tuning..

after ditching my superchip tuner.. { pos }.. I started researching the ficm tuning .. I read everything I could on the products available to tune the ficm ..
PHP won out for several reasons.. 4 options for ficm tuning.. the posted & available research results that they made openly available .. the straight forward direction based on your trucks mods. or lack of .. plus their reputation was very respected..

I read many post on the ficm tuning , nearly all related to stacking the ficm tuning on with other regular tuners .. I found near to nothing based on a semi stock truck , witn the basic exhaust , air intake , & egr delete mods.. so hopefully this will help some folks.. & clear up the results from a truck that is running no other tuning with the ficm tuning..

first off the packaging on the PHP ficm tuner was great.. the instructions were simple , non- confusing & I recommend that even the pro.'s read the instruction / programming instruction sheet that comes with the tuner..

on the 05 up trucks pull out relay 304 from your under the hood relay box.. the instruction will locate this relay for you by its position in the box.. its very important to pull this relay..

after looking thru all the options on the tuner first , I then went to programming.. I chose the atlas40 over the economy , as they both yield better mpg , but with varying performance levels.. I was very happy with the boost in power I got from the atlas 40 setting.. throttle response was greatly improved all thru the power range.. ran smooth & strong ..

I have no means to monitor all the stuff many guys do.. but according to PHP , these things aren't an issue with a truck not using any other type tuning.. so all I can speak on is the drivability & function .. which is the very thing I could not locate in my research of ficm tuning results.. I will be adding another tuner which will live on the economy stting & it has the capability to monitor , so I will update on this accordingly.. from right now I can see no reason TO NOT RECOMEND the PHP ficm tuner.. sending your ficm in to be reset may be an option for some, but for the price I would rather control these things with some choices on my own..

other ficm tuners come with one setting only designed from what I read to fit your trucks modification level..or what you want .. & theres nothing wrong with that, but again.. we are back to owner choices .. I would rather control these things & be done with it all .. if I want to change the tuning level later I can.. a simple concept & a no brainer for my needs.. so I will update on any mileage increases & drivability again soon & later on with monitored readings.. I hope this helps some of the guys who don't run other tuning..

3 days .. super fast imo .. it is an upgrade I cant see anyone regretting.. especially on a truck that's mostly stock .. I cant speak from a standpoint on using this in conjunction with another tuner.. which is why I posted on it.. I could find no direct posts with this product being the only tuning used.. & every post I found on using it with other standard type tuners turned into a discussion on monitor readings when using it with a regular tuner .. which is a good thing to consider , but totally unrelated to what I needed to know.. in reality there are some of us not running the standard type tuners.. which I will probably end up using an edge tuner for its economy setting & monitor capabilities ..

just FYI the edge tuner CS/CTS is way more than their monitor
well worth just buying the insight ( monitor only CS /CTS from edge and a SCT with a ECO tune /Tow tune/and for you a mild or less tune

it would be about the same money and a much better return on your investment IMHO

I read over your original post in it's entirety but I am not sure I am understanding your complaint. Is there something I can help you with on it?

Ok then. This isnt the first time I have misread something. When I saw this part:
I can see no reason TO NOT RECOMEND the PHP ficm tuner
I assumed we did something wrong :/

Yeah. I'm sure the other guy was just frustrated and venting. It happens and I do genuinely feel bad for the guy's tough luck.

So I just read over the part I quoted in my last post again... the double negative threw me off. lol

Sweet deal :D

yes zmann is correct.. I intended nothing negative .. just the opposite, I could not be happier with the ficm tuner.. my fuel mileage is up a solid 4 mpg .. the truck runs far better.. I suspect that guys running other tuning don't fully recognize the benefits of ficm tuning.. being used to driving a mostly stock truck {exhaust , air, egr delete }, the benefits of the ficm tuning is extremely noticeable.. I think folks should note that PHP doesnot recommend the atlas80 or Hercules tunes with stock head bolts.. you can also get your ficm reprogrammed cheaper than buying the tuner for it.. but I wanted the options of having a choice when I want it & to be able to return to stock if need be.. I DO NOT regret my choice ..

thus far at almost a week into the ficm tuning, its great.. a fantastic option .. I personally feel fueling upgrades are often overlooked , as folks want tuning now & don't consider the fuel flow.. fuel flow is more important the way I see it.. if you have the basic upgrades to the egr , exhaust & such.. I see more long term benefit from upgrading the fuel pump with the ficm tuning.. next is an airdog 150 fuel pump & a billet sump..

as of now I recommend the PHP ficm tuner over any other tuning if you are running a mostly stock truck.. people running traditional tuning may not feel the benefit of ficm tuning.. but it is there & very important.. my truck is near 10 yrs. old with only 120k on the clock.. I plan on driving it many more yrs.. its clean, it looks great, runs well, & is paid for.. at some point i'll do the heads , the studs ,new injectors , a ipr external oil cooler .. but first is the fuel system..

the PHP ficm tuner gets a big thumbs up ..

If you return your truck's FICM to stock using the same programmer it was tuned with, the programmer fully unmarrys the truck. Once returned to stock, you can put the programmer on any 6.0 and tune it without issue. :)

Is it possible to pay an extra fee or something to have it be able to tune more than one truck (say someone had a second 6.0 and didn't want to have to buy two complete tuners to tune both trucks)??

latest update.. I now want to drive the truck more as opposed to my wifes hhr when we go places.. the extra mileage helps a lot.. the drivability is so much nicer , you actually WANT to drive it.. the extra pep is great.. & I feel way more comfortable with the ficm tuning as oppose to conventional tunes alone.. in fact knowing I have that covered , conventional tuning just sits better with me.. bear in mind all I have ever used is the economy settings on conventional tuners .. economical suites me fine but I want everything to function right when combined.. I really think this is the ticket .. & better fuel delivery will be a priority next up .. a BIG THANKS TO PHP ..

So I ask PHP a question and 5 days with no response??
Hmmm.............................:lame:

I run the atlas40 ficm tune and gearheads SRL+ . Definitely happy with the trucks drivability and economy I can achieve

I just replaced the power supply half shell of my FICM and now want to do this. I have a question about the strategy? I'm confused. When I brought my truck to the dealer in 2010 or so they did a mandatory retune. Is it the FICM they tuned or is it the ECM? Is the FICM tune what is referred to as strategy?

recent update.. still running the atlas 40 .. was going to try the economy setting just to see, but have not yet.. the ficm tuner has lived up to everything php claimed it would do.. truck runs great, averages 2 to 3 miles to the gallon.. have not made a long hiway run yet, but from what I'm seeing mixed driving I'm expecting even better hiway mileage.. what I need now is a good economy setting ecm tune.. I am not interested in hotter tunes.. any suggestions ??

if you have been kicking the ficm tuner .. go ahead & buy it.. I cant see it not helping..

I guarantee it will help sharpen up your laggy situation. Truck will be much more snappy after a FICM tune.
I have the PHP FICM tuner but have only tried Atlas40. Huge difference over stock.
Give it a go you won't be Dissapointed.

Just installed PHP Atlas 80 yesterday on top of my SRL+...wow!! Took it for test drive after and couldn't have been more happy - great throttle response, great power, starts easier and runs smoother! Bad news - parked truck after test drive and an hour later went to get back in and noticed a puddle of coolant underneath truck. Yep blown head gaskets. Had a small leak prior but Ficm tune just pushed it over the edge. Going into shop Monday for repair.
