Hi - got my AutoEnginuity Ford Enh. Scanner in the mail today, I've got P1316 IDM code - tmrw I'll pull the fender well apart and hope it's some crusty wire: any tips beyond check for broke/crusty/bad wires/wire harness/plugs before I by an IDM?

Google fifty cent mod...
I got that code and had a loose connection.
Basically pull valve cover take a quarter cut a flat spot to washingtons hairline stick it in the harness clip to hold up the lock...ford has a shim kit that does the same.

You can start the truck let it run some and scan the exhaust manifolds with an ir thermometer. . 30 bucks or so at harbor freight lowes etc....in my case one side was 100 degrees cooler.
Thus the misfire side.

Agree on running the buzz test...but as stated previously...

IDM codes do not necessarily mean there is a problem with the IDM itself...IDM codes can be caused by wiring, injector, PCM, or other vehicle issues...

basically if the IDM buzzes all 8 injectors (and you, audibly hear them...annnnd they all sound relatively similar in tone)..then the IDM itself is most likely fine.

further...if the vehicle starts/runs without a constant SES/CEL illuminated...then your wiring to the injs is most likely good...assuming it's Ford/Motorcraft wiring & UVC gaskets.

is there a specific issue you're trying to troubleshoot?

often 'codes' may have nothing whatsoever to do with a drive ability concern...but sometimes you'll get lucky and find a correlation.

intermittent service engine light: on the buzz test: code P1272 Cylinder #2 high to low side open...had a cocktail and a smoke with my truck, will do about anything to it except for changing injectors(front yard wanna be fixer gurl here and the whole fuel/oil mixing - hand crank thing scares me a bit). The buzz test: hardly any audible sounds whatsoever. I watched the youtube world and there is definately audible clicks - I have few, truck starts right up, runs, drives normal intermit. engine light(runs loper mode 1/3 throttle with extra noise)..then engine light clears and all is good. I'm just fearing my bill at Interantional if I take it in
