Hello,
I have a 2006 F250 with a 6.0 L diesel. I've owned this truck for 6 years and have occasionally cleaned the EGR valve. Yesterday I decided to replace the EGR Valve after noticing the O-rings were breaking and knowing that it was original to the truck. I purchased a new EGR Valve from my local Ford dealer. After installation I am getting a CEL with p0404 and p0405 codes. I scanned the truck prior to replacing the EGR and everything was clear. I also replaced the fuel filters the same day. Any idea on the reason for the CEL and codes?
Thanks for any help

Any chance the egr valve was unplugged with the key on? Also last time I hade those two codes together I was getting an erratic egr position signal, I suppose you could have got a bad part.

Do you have a scan tool that can command the EGR valve to open to verify it's functioning?

I would clear the codes and make sure that connector on the new EGR is seated properly

and try again if it does the same thing I would get new gasket/oring kit from ford for the old one and try it if it has no issues I would be talking to Ford

what did you pay for that ? over 200 bucks ?

Yes, I paid $251 for the new part. Unfortunately I returned my old egr for the core charge. I had to call them dealer and get my old part back and pay the $30 core. Just drove 150 miles with the new egr without issue until I stopped for a few hours. The CEL came back on. If it comes back after clearing I will return to the dealer.

Yeah they started doing a core charge on them about a year ago. Must be replacing too many and running low on replacement parts.

Thanks for the tip on a new parts supplier. The CEL came on again while i was stuck in traffic. I will be putting the original EGR back in tomorrow morning. The only high point of today's misadventure was seeing the Patriots beat the Bills in person.
I am fully expecting to have to fight with the dealer to get a new EGR, they were already trying to say that they need to run a diagnostics on my truck before they will replace or refund.
Thanks to everyone for the help
