the axle will not move freely when 4x4 turned off and is disengaged ... the 4x4 light on dash does not come on or stay on when turned off... but when you go down to the axle and try to move it with you hand to feel it it does not free up ...any help would be most appreciated !!!

Make sure you don't have the hubs locked. The settings are clockwise = locked, counterclockwise = auto.
