I am servicing my ATF on my Excursion. It takes 6.4Q of fluid. I am wanting to add some Lucas to help with shifting since I have chipped it. Any suggestions on what the mix ratio should be? I have been told to do 5Q ATF and 1.5 Lucas. Suggestions????????????

First, your trans holds at least 16 qts of fluid.

Second, the correct ratio is 0% Lucas to 100% trans fluid.

Third, there hasn't been a Mercon licensed fluid for a couple of years. Mercon V is now the correct fluid.

So you want to put a fluid into the unit in which the clutches were never designed for and has a friction modifier in it?

Stick with Mercon.

That's strange. Valvoline is making a Mercon fluid. They also make a Mercon V. And if you want no friction modifiers for the even older stuff. They still manufacture a Type F. So when you say that Mercon isn't made anymore...

And interestingly enough. Mobil makes it also. Mobil ATF D/M is also recommended by ExxonMobil for use in 1988 and newer Fords, except vehicles that require MERCON V or Type F ATF. Why do they even waste the time?

You need to hone your reading skills. You see stuff that isn't there and miss other stuff. I said..... there hasn't been a Mercon licensed fluid for a couple of years. You also missed this.... FCSD does not recommend the use of any products that claim to be the equivalent of MERCON.

BTW Ford still licenses type F fluid.

The oil companies don't waste their time, people still buy the stuff. They make money, everyone is happy.
