hey ive been reading up on this and found several ways to do it is it really necesarry my dad and several others i know have 300,000 + miles and never messed with it

Mine was never touched for 250K miles, until i upgraded to a S366 charger and it came with a new intake kit. I just ran a hose and dumped it down to the ground. and thats' been 20K miles ago.
You'll probabaly hear about how its not safe to do that like it can get clogged or something like that, or you should re-direct it bac into the system itself.
But our tractors have CCV vents directed towards the ground and all of our semi's have the same thing. so basically over 2 million miles and tens of thousands of hours without issues.
up to you

its fine unless youre trying to push a lot of horse, from what i understand. it gets oil in your intercoolers pipes and intercooler, and restricts airflow.

IH designed this engine with the CCV dumping to the ground near the engine. Just like the cummins used to do. Ford decided they wanted to suck these fumes through the turbo, intercooler, and send them into the engine to be burned. Problem is that these fumes condense into oil and make a slippery oily mess out of something designed to only move clean air.

you want all that oiling up your exhaust? i wouldnt want oil coming out my tail pipe.

mine drops stright down to the ground basically from where it vents on the VC. it definately keeps my front U-joint lubricated. And the gases/fumes aren't really noticable unless it's really hot (much like this summer) and im sitting at a stop light longer than usual

useless imo.

I hate this mod with a passion. That said I cant stand the oil in my intercooler tract.I have tried every form of hose routing and and canisters on the market. None worked well for my taste. My current set up,taken from Dodge on the cummins works real well for me. I routed the hose over the hydroboost (up hill) and down in front of the engine, below the front tracbar. No oil on the ground and positively no fumes in the cab ever. The fan takes care of the fumes.

If you get high miles and encounter some blowby, it could extend your engine life. I am rebuilding an 01' with 180k due to blowby plugging up the IC and the truck won't run more than 40 miles without shutting down. Granted it needed rebuild but the ccv mod may have extended it a bit.

Makes really good sense to terminate a short CCV vent pipe in a place where the engine fan can dilute and distribute the fumes.

I routed mine over the hydroboost and them straight to the ground using a v10 power steering hose. The motor has over 200k on it so the blowby is noticable. Especially at night when it drafts up in front of the headlights. DUmping it into the exhaust at a 45 degree angle would produce a little suction and get rid of the fumes. And even better it will keep your tailpipe lubed!

There's not exactly a downside to the ccv mod, any of y'all ever see a truck run away in person? I have, its ####ed up to sit there and watch an engine destroy itself, but that's what happens when it starts running on its own oil, hint hint from ccv, now granted if your truck runs away from too much oil in the crank case vent there are more problems, it would keep you from running away, as far as I know anyways

Only time I heard of a run away was when at diesel truck got surrounded by a gas cloud from a leaking transmitter on a storage cavern. The engine didn't get time to destroy itself as the truck ignited the gas cloud and blew up.

A coworker and I were scanning a 6.0 one day, running a contribution test, and it ran away, we turned the key off, and then realized what was happening when it stayed running, lol. It was about the most epic thing, it absolutely filled the shop with smoke, we all had to get out

Yah explain that one to the customer. LOL

I tried it...very nice set up,but to small for a 7.3

i have mine ran behind the cab on the frame, the only time i smell it is if im standing by my rear wheel while it's running. I currently am having trouble getting a oil pan to stop leaking and it's not real bad unless i'm pulling something, the crank case gets more pressure and pushes more out. would another ccv help my situation?

I did the ccv years ago and I like the fact that the motor is still very clean.

point the garden hose down to the ground where it belongs...clean up the oil in the valley and look for a oil leak..
