Building my 75 F250 Highboy with a divorced NP205 behind a 12 valve and a 4x2 ZF6.The more I get into this build the more work will be put into the motor. My goal is modest at around 450rwhp. How do you think the 205 will hold up to sled pulling but mostly tug a truck?

should be fine its alot better then the 203 imo

alot of the monster trucks that aren't running profab transfer cases are running dual 205's these things are strong as hell. and all cast iron

That is what I was thinking to. Strong as hell. I am only asking because I met a guy who keeps ripping input shafts out of them. He ended buying a $800 dollar shaft and broke that too.

It is in a 76 f600 converted to a pick up truck. The engine is a 3208 Cat. It obviously makes alot of torque but it cant that much though. Thanks for the input.

I had a 12 valve dodge that i converted from 2x4 to 4x4 and used a divorced 205 with the 35 spline/ big bearing input, and broke the input shaft once and the output shaft once, there not as tough as they look lol, i did tug a war and pulled with this truck and seemed to always break either input or output, just my opinion.

just so you guys know those tcases where designed for a 3rd of the tq the diesels put out... they are stout behind most any gasser. depending on the power goals then it shoud do ok... a big cat motor only puts out couple thousand ftlbs of tq give er take so yeah they will break the sh!t out if small parts...

Just for clarity sake, the forementioned cat engine only produces trq rateing's in the 400 to 600ftlb range, in stock trim.. This would actually be less then what the 400/450hp cummins will produce .. I too very briefly considered the divorced 205 in my upcoming f450/dt360 conversion, but fiqured it wouldnt handle the weight,or trq the truck will be towing/produceing.. As it stands a transfer case option, and time for the project is my only hang up.. Pondering a way to divorce the np271 in the truck now, or move up to one out of a military m35 2 ton..

Thanks for the input guys. This is really going to put a dampner on my plans. That was my master plan to put a 4x2 zf6 and a 205. This trucks main purpose is to tug a truck. back to the drawing board...

you can use the divorced 273 they used in the 4500-5500 chevys and gmcs and flip it , becuase they are pass side drop...its electric shift though, may be able to convert to a manual shift to.. flipping it involves running the oil pump pickup in differnet location etc... I'd like to find the divorced input shaft from the 273 divorced case... or swap a NWF black box to the front of one with a drive flange / yoke on the front of the NWF black box.

Apparently not. But I don't see why ppl to tug a truck. Why not just tie rope to u and another guys shaft and see who wins. Why wreck decent stuff for no real reason.

I don't baby my truck I abuse it every chance I get on pavement. It's only 2wd so it don't get off the road much

I love that scout lol. And yea it would be hard to break behind only 350 pounds

#21 ·
Haha yea I've seen a few videos of it and u can always tell its the scout. I would love to drive it. The best DD 4x4 diesel shortwheel base decent mileage probably and u can take the top off

That is awesome.

Ok wish list need a old bronco or scout a idi diesel a 5 speed

Oh and hmm Scranton need to find a good excuse to go?

Isn't Scranton close to that one coal town where they accidentally light a coal path and it burns till this day?

well there's a town that was completely ruined by a burning coal vein. i think that's a few hours away. there was a town a few minutes from me where a vein caught fire and they had to dig til they hit rock and let it burn out but it didn't bother the town.

Yea its centerilia or somethinf on a map it looks close. I think still burns apparently it still has 12 residents. I think it be sorta cool to see but not live there.

Wonder if ppl can visit it. For some reason stuff like that interests me. I heard about a place in MO called times beach where the level of a chemical sprayed on the roads to keep the dust down was a billion times stronger than agent orange. I side tracked this but I think we've concluded a np205 isn't strong enough for x amount of torque
