High idle program for warm up?

Will it hurt anything if you start your truck cold in the high idle? (1200)
Or, is it better to let it warm up at 600?

what about with a remote starter? is it safe to leave in the 1200 rpm tune and start it remotly. or should it be started then tuned to 1200?

Hi idle IS for warm up. Mine warms up twice as fast (with a 1250 rpm hi-idle speed) than it did stock.

HOWEVER: Don't START the truck in high idle.

Crank and start in any other setting (preferably stock or slightly above) then once the engine is up and running, gently press the accelerator until you reach your hi-idle speed, then switch the chip into hi-idle (that's how i do it, anyway), or just switch it directly without the throttle-up. It'll jump right up to hi-idle speed.

Actually cranking and starting in hi-idle is extra hard on the bottom end because of the lack of lubrication, and the fact that your going right up to a relatively hi engine speed without it.

there is nothing wrong with idling for 30 second to a minute in cold weather and driving off "slowly" to build up heat, then drive it normal.
high idle i do believe is for extended idle times so fuel does not wash oil off of the cylinder walls. when the temp is to low at say 600rpm's, there is alot of fuel unburned, and washes off oil. at 1200rpm's, the combustion chamber has more heat and burns the fuel and splash lubes the bores with oil a little, no bore wash. now i remember, it's called "wet stacking"

high idle is also good for cooling down trans, and turbo after working out your truck. i use it on cool downs often.

and last, i believe the dp f5 has 16 positions, your not going to run out of positions! jody & diane let you have high idle for 25 bucks, unless they have changed their prices.

I use my high idle to keep heater hot or AC cold when idling for a long time..I also use it to boost people or run the winch...I let the PCM control the warm up mode...

I was wondering about the need for the high idle too since mine does that already stock when its cold outside :D

1100 when its chilly..when really cold starts out 1100 then climbs to 1200 when it warms up a bit..it will idle low for a couple minutes at very first start up to let the oil move,,, then it starts the high idle mode..

Mine goes up to 1100 rpm or so according to the factory tach. Stays there till the truck is warmed up or you touch the pedal. Also if its real cold it will idle it back up again to warm up more.

Nice feature.

just got a email from Jody..mine should still do the high idle mode through the PCM after i get the chip in..the only thing he changes in stock setting is the SS injectors..
