Why is it that u get more hp out of the common rail and why can't we get it out of the heui

Let me make this as simple as possible - fuel injection is all about pressure and control - the common rails can inject fuel at a higher pressure and have a more finite control over the "on" and "off" states for the injectors - that is why common rails can do things like multiple injections if so desired. HEUI is low pressure and slow as chit to turn on and turn off - no matter what generation the technology is in.

How can you take a fuel injection system that is older technology and inferior, and expect it to perform every bit as good as a fuel injection system that is newer and superior?

HEUI isn't bad, but it's not the best. So don't expect it to perform the best.

As long a the fuel rail pressure stays up, the nozzle is big enough, and the timing is right, you can put as fuel in there as you want. The HEUI, one shot of fuel and that's it. bummer.

HRT, I know you were working on something, but haven't we advanced the heui injector quite a bit in the last couple years? Maybe one of these days we can get it up to par with the other injection systems...... Or just wait for swamps' commonrail kit!!

Still liking my old dinosaur. It is not and never will be the fastest thing out there. But it will spank a whole bunch of wannabees. And if you are going to beat it, you better bring the goods. If I wanted really fast, I would be driving something like Dukey just sold. Only homebuilt.

HUEI is a much more involved system. They dont fire as fast as a common rail but thats due to there design. You can have multiple injection events but the precision and timming of those is what lacks and why ford made a switch to CR technology. You gotta recall....from 03-07 ford used one engine with minor tweeks and was able to remain EPA complient. All of the newer technology is to assist with emissions and noise. HUEI injection pressure is still around 29,000 PSI so its close to common rail pressure, but the CR's are a much differnet designed injector. Since the fuel is pressurized its a simple open/close of the injector...With HUEI its the same way but you need oil to do the work opposed to the injection pump. Weather its better or not is debatable, it depends upon your outlook. I will say they are more efficent of a system in general, but they all still have drawbacks.

This idea that every CR is making 600 is just bunk. There are those who are but they're not as common as we think. I'm always hearing guys talking their junk up because someone made XYZ with the same engine. If you have a true 500 RWHP truck you are the top of the food chain in most circles, 600 is better but not not many making that. HEUI is cappable of both #'s. These 1000hp giants are as likely to toss an input shaft as make a run. And most aren't driving around on Saturday night.

LOL

That's another one I love to confront. There's this guy in ????? Making 1000hp on twins w/a 12V so your Powerchoke is trash! ussually this guy has a rusty clapped out 1st gen with a "mitred" 10" stove-pipe stack sticking non-straight out of his bed.

I've yet to come across a monster diesel, not saying JD, RED STROKE, Chuck, and the rest don't drive their's but they're NOT everywhere. You show up w/600rwhp to 99% of the streets in hometown USA and you're King! :evil

Not around my neck of the woods, I could dyno mid 7's all day and it was a waste of time and money to strap.

There's maybe 5 or 6 trucks in kansas that I've ever seen or heard of that's 600+. 2 of which are 7.3's. I obviously can't say I could ever possibly hear of every one of them but I try to keep up with all the pulls, drags, and just about every diesel forum out there for each brand. When you're at that hp level, people tend to want to show it off somewhere. I know I will!

I bet there are a couple more than that - I know you guys aren't quite as into it as we are here in Ohio - but I wouldn't even want to think about how many 500Hp trucks will be at a track in the parking lot at any given truck pull - not counting all the trucks actually on the track. But then again there are usually at least 4 or 5 trucks that break the 900Hp barrier in the 2.6 class on any given night - we won't even go down the road of the open driveline trucks.

yeah we have a couple guys around here that are running at or around 500hp..... sadly enough haha.

I dont know any of the dmax's, havent seen many modded ones. But i know we have a 600hp on fuel dodge that ive seen dyno sheets for.

And 2 500hp 7.3s that ive seen dyno sheets for

there are a few 6.4's around my house that i'm scared of. even at the track with the race truck (if i ever bring the truck home)... and my 450 is a solid 425 and it's one of the slower trucks in town

ps. Rudy's is only 30 minutes away

Well rudys truck scares me just looking at pics of it, knowing what it can do!!! :hehe:

I aint' skeered of anybody. Somebody talks about how fast their car or truck is, the first words out of my mouth are "Wanna race?". I won't bet enough to break any bank, I for sure won't be running pink slips. My favorite bet is drink of the winners choice, loser gets to help consume.
