What are the BOM numbers off the tag on the diff cover?

 

the metal tag held on by diff cover bolts?

i had those written down earlier... cant seem to find the sticky note. ill grab them in the morning.

why, would that make a diffrence?

It is a Dana 60...unless someone swapped it for some reason..

Are the inners 30 spline, and the outers 35 spline?

stock 60 axles are 30 spline outer, 35 inner most of the time

 

The 248 should be the dana 60 but I have swapped outter hubs between dana 50s and 60s and it worked. I had asked the ?? a couple mos. back the differences I could come up with was the carrier and pinion size. Even the axles are the same I think as I called ford and asked if they had the same part # on a 99 front axle dana 50 to a 03 front axle dana 60 and they said that it was.

 

so to check the inner... i have to pull everything apart and count the splines going into the diff?

i just had all that apart 3 weeks ago replacing u joints, ball joints, seals

when Inner is said, that means into the diff?

outer means into the hubs?

 

As long as you order hubs for a SD it should work either way. All the info I could come up with says that the dana 50 and dana 60 use the same axle. :shrug:

Its a Dana 60 axle for a 2002 F250 originally equiped with 3.73 gears.

If you look up the application on Warn's website it says that it should have 30 spline lockouts. Other Dana 60 apps can use 35 spline lockouts. You could use 35 spline lockouts if you change your outer shafts.

 

35 spline inners, 30 spline outers. The only 35 spline Ford outers are aftermarket, but you can get them.
Chevy & Dodge 60's had some 35 outers but they are a wee bit longer than the Ford. Even if it's a Dana 50 the outer axle shafts are the same.

this hole 35/30 spline thing is a pia. lol

should i of ordered the 60 (35 spline) or the dana 50?

is there a difrence in outer axle size where the locking hub goes, between the 50 and 60? if the only difference is in the INNER splines into the carrier why is that number mentioned?



im messed in the mind. 2nd time ive ordered something online and till it gets here and installed ill be worried about it being the right part or not. im in NH... Cali is a long ass ways away. ha ha
