I bought an 06 6.0 and it has an egr delete with the egr valve still plug in and it throws a check engine light every so often. I clear the light and then a day or so it comes back. Code P04010, some help please

it's p0401 you have an extra 0

and yes it's EGR flow code due to a sneaky delete (they leave the valve in place but block the flow with a plug upstream) but it's most likely just a bad EGR valve

if it has a sneaky delete whomever you bought the truck from probably removed a tuner that was blocking the code can you ask the PO?

Hey guys I'm new to all this so I'm wondering what might be going on, I pulled up a code p1335 and it was somthin to do with the egr so I pulled it out and cleaned it up, it was pretty dirty not nothing more than usual but I installed it back and now I'm blowing some haZy white smoke out the exhaust, I'm wondering if this is normal after u clean it or not, it wasn't smoking before I cleaned it.

well doesnt sound good. i would pull the valve again after it has been sitting for several hours with the nose downhill. more than likely, ur egr cooler went out so u have coolant leaking in there. if u find coolant below the valve, try not to drive it much and if u do, unplug the valve and leave the valve unplugged until u fix it. u need some gauges like the scangauge2. to tell if ur oil cooler is clogged. if u have emissions testing, u will do a bulletproof egr cooler or an oem cooler. if not, u should do an egr delete.

Ok I'll try that and see what happens, the coolant is still were it normally is in te degas bottle...so I gess I'm not really loosing any coolant? I didn't know if it was just smoking some because it had been clogged before I cleaned it and it was just blowing all the rest of that stuff out, if it is the egr going out I'll get that full delete... I had planne on doing that anyway just not right this minute lol I also recently did that zoodad mod an I read somthin about how if the intake is dirty it can somtimes smoke a little? I have an age stage 1 which is just the filter...don't know if mate I need to check that too?

Have any of you guys ever did an egr delete where u just take the cooler out and weld both ends shut? And then using the tuner to shut the egr off electronically? I was gettin ready to do one and was trying to figure out a good way to do it, any advice would be helpful

There are a ton of guys that do that. It's called a "sneaky" delete. All they do is cut out two circular stainless steel disks and weld up the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler.

Here's why I leave my EGR valve plugged in but bolted down with the right-rear intake elbow bolt.

Side effect of disconnecting EGR valve

Ok dang that was some good stuff in the link, so the fan doesn't work properly wit the valve shut off as it would with it just left plugged in? So basically just takin the cooler out and welding the ends shut is still gonna be as good as a normal full delete? The delete kits are pricey and doing it this way would save alot of money, is there any downfalls to doing it this way that u know of?

Nope, I know a lot of guys that did it this way. Just make sure the disks are completely welded all the way around.

Sounds good man, now is this somthin a novice mechanic can pull off and do or would I really need to know what I'm doing? Im new to this pretty much but I'm tired of paying money for stuff I can do myself if it's not gonna be terribly hard

Yes you can do it yourself. It's just time consuming. Just read the Tech sections on the different PS forums and do some searches for EGR delete install threads, buy a case of beer and get to work.
