EGR block off plate

Tried searching but couldn't really find the info I'm looking for. At the current time I wouldn't have the cash or time to do a full egr delete. With that being said the truck would get studded at the same time. My question is to anyone with the block of plates. Any pros/cons in running them? Any problems? I'm also tossing around the idea of a bpd cooler for the time being as well. Any input would be great.

At some point in time I'd like to stud it, injectors, built tranny, and stage 2 fuel system. So I figure while it would be apart for studs may as well do a delete. I figured running a plate with high tunes wouldn't be a good idea.

i run the 275 and blocker plates all the time. i dont run it WOT all the time though, just the occasional 'watch this' or something. Ive seen ebp around 75-78 and most guys from what i hear have the WG open at 72, so I really cant see 2-6lbs really hurting that much.

granted i am more than willing to accept the consequences if something does fail. I plan to do a WG eventually when I do the gaskets and studs.

Well high exhaust pressure will cause the valves to stay open if it gets too high. If your dashdaq reads 78psi your right on the edge as the valves start to open at that pressure from what I've been told. I'd say run the blocker plates but you should know the possible outcomes from it.

i watch that gage pretty close when i run it hard. ive never seen any higher than that. if it does i let out.

im sure the wg doesnt respond perfectly everytime does it?

for the most part it does (unless it gets stuck open) but if you are monitoring then you should catch it quick.

i got mine dialed t0 72 max and have never had an issue...aside from a faulty EGTRA sensor

which is the better set up? wastegate that utilizes the stock egr pipe and dumps beneath the engine, or the more common weld into DP set-up? not much of a price difference i see.... i get my license back in a few weeks, so im excited to try out the 275 tune, but ill prob daily drive on a lower tune, would blocker plates be fine for me for now?

Im running blocker plates and the 275 daily.

A wastegate that utilizes the egr pipe will not respond as quickly as one right near the engine.

both could either dump into the DP or atmosphere.

I've been considering the same thing whether to put a set of plates on or not. If you do block them off does the tuner need to disable the egr system? I'm running the H&S Xrt pro and unsure if it would work or not.

Not positive on the H&S but all the higher Spartan tunes 275 and up turn it off completely... And 210-250 cycle it at idle to not get all the soot in the intake when yah root on er good. Your H&S might ask to diable it like the Livewire does and others...

Is 78 the readout you have on the electronic sensor? If so it probably includes atmospheric pressure which will be between 12ish and 15ish psi. The stock valve springs are good until 60 true psi, some do fine at 65 psi. so if your readout is absolute, then subtract the atmospheric pressure (12-15) from the total, and if it goes over 60ish you could end up with damage. The EGR delete kit would definitely be a step in the right direction, and help in getting your truck reliable if you don't blow it up in the process by working it like an illegal immigrant. As long as you're not stupid about it (meaning you watch your gauge, and lift before something bad happens), then it's a good thing.

If this is a truck that some dummy kid bought on daddy's money then I'd say no way. If you're the kind of guy who takes care of your stuff, and won't push it beyond it's limits, then go for it. Good luck figuring it out.

I have to drive 22 hours round trip next week, can i still "blocker plate" my egr tubes and NOT use the 275 and up tunes? i just wanna feel a sense of security when im driving that far.... no trailer, or any sort of a load, just a couple suitcases.... Will it harm anything for the egr to be turning on and off with the plates installed at a lower than a 275 tune...

you will have a few codes unless you are running a 275 or higher tune. (spartan that is)

Their newest update has EGR off tunes which eliminate the code.

If you arent pulling a trailer then why not run a 275? You can get better fuel mileage and the truck will run great. Just dont put it to the floor every chance you get. The 275 has the egr turned off and no codes.

I ran my truck for a year with EGR codes, it doesnt hurt anything just turns the light on.

no it wont hurt. my plates have been in on a stock truck for a few months now and i got no codes and no problems.

what would happen if you ran hot tunes with blocker plates in? and you got on her.
I have warrenty and im thinking possibly just popin the heads right but home and trailor it to the dealer and gettin it under warrenty. (my buddy is the mech so the tune wont be a prob) i just need a reason to take it in there
