DI Up pipe install; 4" downpipe in the way

Got the ceramic coated up pipes from DI and need to decide if the 4" downpipe has to come out to access the manifold flange.

I got the manifold flange bolts off the driver side and the bottom one on the passenger but the top one is tough to access. I got it loose but not out.

I removed the clamps on my exhaust but I think I am going to have to heat the slip joints to get the downpipe loose from the rest.

If I remove the crossmember can I lower the downpipe enough to get at the problem?

Either the downpipe has to come out or I cut a small hole in the plastic inner fender to get to the bolt head for this to work. Then I still might not be able to snake the DI up pipes in with the downpipe still there.

Am I missing a third option or an easier way to get the up pipe out of the way?

Thanks

Should I move this to 7.3 Technical forum? DI up pipes and 4" downpipe are mods but the procedure is probably more tech than mod.

Thanks guys.

Got a buddy coming over to help pull while I heat one of the exhaust pipe connections to red with a torch. I bet it will go back together without heating again.

Probably should have had Dave's team install it but I have learned a lot about this engine, and I got the oil from the HPOP leak I had cleaned from the valley.

I got both sides unbolted and everything out including the turbo with the dp inplace. But there is no way to get the new pipes in. I tried every angle. Not happening. I fought with the dp for a half hour to get it apart. The uppipes fell right in once the dp was out.
Hope this helps:ford:

Next time I do up pipes, my tranny is coming out. There is nothing in the way with the tranny out. I can R&R my tranny in about 90 minutes. I fought the uppies for three to four hours.

Got em done.

The down pipe had to come out. My problem was not removing the spider and turbo but the down pipe. My 4" downpipe and exhaust is Dynamax (PO install) and my propane torch did not have the gusto to heat the connections enough to get them apart.

After messing with it a while and calling Dave at DI, I finally maned up and used my sawsall and got with the program. Cut the exhaust forward of the cross member and in front of the muffler.

Took the down pipe and the 4' section behind it to Tomball muffler and they welded it back together and separated the connection. I bolted the down pipe in and drove the Excursion back to them and they welded the other cut and put it back together.

Bone head move on my part was not connecting the EBPV rod to the pivot. Had to remove the boot on the passenger side and rotate the intercooler pipe up and out of the way to get my hand in there to make the connection.

If I melt the stock turbo I guess I will be doing the EBPV delete when going with a BB turbo. In the mean time the wife will appreciate the quick cabin heat, especially when we are at her folks house and its 20 below at the western tip of Lake Superior.
