Yes, I am 99% that this is not at all a tuning problem. I have loaded the stock tune and have the same issues.

Made some progress tonight!

I installed the block off plate between the uppipe and the wastegate and let me tell you what a chore it was, as soon as I started the truck, i had no more negative boost! Took it for a ride and the truck made instant power and boost. Makes 75ish on the ebp and only 35 on the boost max. I couldnt get the bolts any tighter at the block off plate so im sure its leaking boost there. Also I still have a hose going from where I drilled and tapped the intake elbow to the wastegate. I think boost might be coming out there too. I need to plug the boost line and find a way to tighten the bolts on the plate tighter. I think i could possibly have damaged the metal gasket in there as well.

Thanks buddy!

Just kind of excited to have drive my truck again, feel that power compared to what ive been driving. I am going to be on the phone tommorow with elite to see what they will do to fix this.

yeah those block off plates are a pita!! i dread opening this thread ... i am really, really happy to hear the progress josh. really happy for you!

Glad you have the problem narrowed down!!!

WOW!!! i just got home from work ,haha!!!
that is very good to hear josh! you have to take that wastegate off and inspect it yourself...
just unhook it off the V-clamp and see if it does what its supposed to do.
i'll be taking pics of mikes set up and try to set up something on the site for that wastegate delete.

i knew it wouldnt be easy but i knew it was something that had to be done to truely check the wastegate, glad things are working out, i was actually working on my pile tonight is why i havent responded

yes, smart move on that plate dustin!!!
i would have takin off that pipe and tacked on the nuts for future removal (hopefully none)...and tested the wastegate.
take the wastegate apart and check the diaphram to see if its sealed all the way in.

Josh........I havent said much during the course of this thread because I dont know chit about it BUT I am very glad that you got it working in the right direction........CONGRATS!!!!!

Good Morning, Spent most of the night under the hood of my beast and learned alot about wastegate regulation. I am pleased to see you got that block off plate in and you were actually able to see some results.

I was able to speak to Precision Turbo and Elite yesterday (Thanks Wayne) and learned even more, some of which you might need to know in regards to boost loss. In speaking to Precision Turbo I learned one priceless lesson........ Don't speak to Precision Turbo. Completely useless and I am happy I have a nationwide plan on my cell phone. :lame: Being the producers of this wastegate they could not tell me if the bottom/side inlet on the wastegate should hold pressure or is there a bleed off of air as this is what I am experiencing. Wouldn't even tell me how to get the answer. If I didn't need their wastegate it would be a door stop right about now.

Josh, once you get to the point where you have a sealed boost reference from your intake track, get the regulator installed, and can verify that you have a solid system all the way to where the wastegate is you will hopefully be able to bypass my learning curve and go right to the fun part. Right Foot Engaged.

I think we will have to start a Wastegate tuning thread once we get you all set up.

I installed the block off plate between the uppipe and the wastegate and let me tell you what a chore it was, as soon as I started the truck, i had no more negative boost! Took it for a ride and the truck made instant power and boost. Makes 75ish on the ebp and only 35 on the boost max. I think what we need to do is make a curved plate that goes from nut to nut on the flange where the wastehgate adapter meets the up pipe "y". This would eliminate the problem of having to hold the nuts while negotiating the bolts. Anyone form Elite listening. :D.

Also I still have a hose going from where I drilled and tapped the intake elbow to the wastegate. I think boost might be coming out there too. I need to plug the boost line and find a way to tighten the bolts on the plate tighter. I think i could possibly have damaged the metal gasket in there as well.
I agree you need to get the truck back to where you were before the wastegate mess started. Correct me if i am wrong but that should be about 80 psi of back pressure and 51-53 psi of boost with the 310. Mid 40's on boost with the 275.

I would remove the line off the waste gate and stick a stubby screwdriver in that with a clamp. Because like I said earlier the waste gate DOES bleed off pressure from the bottom/side port. I verified this via a compressor and feeling around the gate for leaks and nothing. So if you had a line going from your elbow to your wastegate without a regulator you definitely have a boost leak there. Don't worry about the wastegate opening up, mine would not open with 80 psi of back pressure. If it was set up right from Elite it definitely needs the boost to assist in opening up.

I got mine to work 75% properly last night and my back pressure is staying low, boost is where it should be (49-52) but the relationship between the two is not where it needs to be. At heavy throttle it is close to where I need it but sustaining the relationship I want over the entire RPM range is not where I want it yet. I am really starting to think we need to use that top port on the wastegate and I will explain why in another posting. I have to talk to a few more people first.

Josh, I think if you get your leaks sealed up and motor doing what is should without the wastegate in the equation you will be able to systematically be able to introduce the wastegate and get this nightmare over with. :ford:

Still here for ya bud.

Thanks guys, and I want to especailly thank BFT, DZChey21. and Evil Twins. You guys have been great and really been the best tech support I have had on this situation, actually the only support.

I did do the screwdriver trick to block off the boost line and clamped it and I seem to have gotten more boost. I saw a max of about 44psi running around on it last night. I think I might still have a small exhaust leak where the plate was installed.

As for the wastegate, im dreading that but I think what im going to do is have Elite send me a brand new replacement. Its in to tough of a spot to keep taking in and out so im going to have them send me a brand new one that has been setup and tested and isntall it only one time. I do not want to rebuild what I have or take the chance of having more problems with it.

Just glad you got it going man, these things are a pain to work on, any help is good. Sucks its taken you this long, but at least you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes, its a big relief and the only light I was seeing as of the past couple nights was the big ball of flames that was about to come....

well, at least you know its not the turbos or a faulty sensor. now that you have this all figured out and finally get a wastegate that functions, (this is just me) i would route the regulator in cab and run a gauge off of it for easy adjustment in cab, vs getting out of the truck and dialing it in from under the hood.
