Clock Spring...

Mods- You can move this as you see fit, I just could not find the "right" place for it...

A few months ago my wifes steering box broke at the pitman arm. Long story and I believe I posted most of it up here anyway.

I dont think we got the wheel properly centered and when ever you turn to the left you can hear what I assume to be the clock spring starting to skweek... I was home this weekend and figured it would be easy to fix, just spin the steering wheel one full turn to the right and no more issue. Did, and no issue on the test drive.

Now its doing it again, anyone messed with the clock spring, replaced the clock spring or any such animal? Need to get the part ordered so I can fix it in 3 weeks...

i have replaced mine. Pretty easy. just gotta make sure your truck is straight and when you disconnect the batteries make sure you turn the head lamps on as well to fully drain the system of electricity, also youl need a steering wheel puller. there is step by step instructions that come with the new one. if those arent good enough, heres a link to some decent isntructions:

you need a big 2 prong puller, not the standard steering wheel puller kit. if you tak it all apart the are two distinct places where the prongs go. once the wheel is pulled orientate the new one over the old one.... its pretty straight foward. the hardest part is removing all the plastic around the steering column. I had to take the plastic cocer off the ignition to plug in the one wire. good luck

It is a hour or so job. You do not need a puller. I have replaced dozens of them without a puller. Just get on both sides of the steering wheel pull with steady pressure on the sides and then on top and bottom. Keep pulling while working the wheel side to side and up and down it will pop loose. Make sure you take the T-50 nut that holds it on off and then start it a few threads back in so when it does pop up you dont go flying.

LOL... I could see that happening. More then likely I will get a puller, one good twist of my back and I am done for weeks. Plus new tools are fun.

No, lol. I am a professional haha. I have actually done dozens of them. I replace airbags alot and swap steering wheels from f-150s to SDs and rangers to explorers. Alot of Ford wheels interchange and doing airbags you have to do alot of clock springs as well. I have never had a problem. As for the front teeth thats why you start the T-50 bolt back in a few threads before you start.
