Alright guys, hoping to build an 800-1000 hp rig. We are going to base it off the 6.4 powerstroke, the truck will be street driven. Our question would be, what would be the absolute best tranny and torque converter for the truck. Money is not going to be a problem, so give us the best of the best! I've heard good things about bts, sun coast etc. I would also like to stick with the 5r110 as the base. Not to big on going with a 4 speed... I'd prefer the 5. Any input would be great!!

As much as i love the 5r honestly save your money 5r is too complicated to keep together @ those hp levels 6-700 not bad but much more they just don't last. Shift timing has to be perfect on 5r or it will die! even @ 450hp if not tuned correctly 5r will burn up. Swap to 4r not as nice a trans but much simpler to tune for bigger hp# my .02

Agree. No need to swap to a 5r. A lot has been accomplished with the 5r in the last year.

IMO Only option is a BTS 4r100 and a controller if you want it to live and shift.....difference between a built 5r and a BTS 4r will be 1/3 +sec on a track.

PM me if I can get you one.

The topic of 4r vs 5r is very opinion based. Ppl who have bad luck with 5r's go to 4r's and usually rave about them. Ppl with good luck on 5r's swear by them and push them. Both have pros and cons, no one can argue that. There are 5r's living at 1000hp or more and there are lots of 4r's doing that too. Get what fits your requirements and needs best, things like cruise control and the gear selector are more important to some than others. Both options are good and have proved to be excellent options.
