Let them do it. You need a awl type of tool with a hook on it. When I had mine replaced they had it off in less than 30 seconds with no problems where if I would of done it it would of taken quite a bit longer and I may of damaged it.

 

^^^^ +1; we had Safelite do both our '95s, and they had the tools to do it with ZERO damage to the trim. Even _fixed_ the trim on the ECLB; pounded out some hail dents to make it fit better.

Practicing on a junk windshield is best till you figure out how the tool works. If done improperly you will break the glass. It is kinda hard to F-up the trim

 

the couple times i have taken mine off i have just used a small flat blade screw driver. never had any issues. sounds as though i got like though.
