for now I am going to leave the stock intake in but what is the best filter to run in one for protection and air flow? I have been told to stay away from k&n because they allow turbo dusting. What should i use?

In my opinion the only reason to keep the stock intake is to save money, so with that line of thinking I would go for the cheapest filter until you can afford a real airbox. The stock one is Horrible. If you're purely looking at filters for filtration, a Donaldson AIS is the way to go. Best bang for the buck is a Tymar. Best all around is AFE2. I belive afe makes a stock replacement with proguard7, but I wouldnt waste money on a stock box, theryre a bad design, IMO.

ok even though you specifically said stock box I will throw in 2 bits.
the stock airbox is the whole problem ..crappy tabs that break off restrictions lids that bow and let in debris, etc..if you want to stay "stock" go with the ford ais filtersystem. yes it is about 200$ from powerstroke shop .com but a dusted engine is way way more.

for 40$ you should be able to build a tymar filter system .

otherwise go witgh the motorcraft filter keep it changed anf keep any eye on the insides for signs of dust
