I'm new here- don't know if this is right forum for this question- but- was wondering if anyone had #1 thoughts concerning installing Amsoil Bypass filter set up-with check valve- worthy expense for life of motor?
#2- Anyone that's done this that has pictures or how best to install on a
'02 Ford F350 turbo diesel 7.3 dually. Part#s or kit # to order from amsoil would be great too. In searching amsoils site there seems to be diff kits etc used over diff model years- kind of confusing as their testimonials don't nec match with what their ref page suggests- I can call them but thought I'd see if there was actual end user knowledge available here.
Thanks, Oh and by the way- I do have a sep thread on some engine issues- I'm hoping for the best there as the truck is still in the shop-assuming the damage is not bad expense wise- I thought about having mechanic hook up this too.

Stay away from the dual remote bypass filters which relocates the full flow filter and adds a bypass filter. Many have seen increased wear on used oil analysis.

amsoil oil is top notch. I dont know much about the filters, I bit the bullet and put on an fs2500. For the price of the amsoil setup I'm sure you cant go wrong.

Like said don't go with the dual remote filter set but the unit that only has the bypass filter is fine. Just don't remote mount the full flow filter
here is a pic of where to get oil supply and return

I've heard this a couple times before. What is the issue with the dual remote setup? I have it on my truck and would like to hear about it.

I am wondering if it is the size of the oil lines going between the remote adaptor and the filter head setup. Other than that I don't see why it would make any difference. Maybe this winter I will make up some -10 lines to connect it and see if that changes anything.

I had the Amsoil dual bypass setup on my truck about two years ago. After my poor used oil ananlysis reports and talking with some great folks (like Hammer & Haulin_Horses, pappy) I switched over to the oilguard bypass filter. Man did I learn a +$350 dollar lesson that day!

The oilguard setup comes with everything you need, whereas the amsoil kit required me to buy additional 90 degree fittings (that would leak!) to make the setup clean. Plus I didn't like the fact that the dual filter elements were not very well protected. The oilguard filter cover seems to be bulletproof.

I used Amsoil's oil in my Harley & cars before and it wored out fine. But when I used it in my 7.3L PSD my Iron numbers were elevated on my used oil analysis reports. After posting it on dieselstop, there were quite a few other folks that had the same experience. I switched to Delo 400 for a while then to Schaeffer's series 7000 15W-40 and both showed excellent results on my used oil analysis.

my 2 cents worth:ford:

Because the filter is too small for the application and restricts oil flow resulting in low flow to critical engine components resulting in engine wear. Go to Napa and ask for 2 filters. One is a 1734 (stock filter for a PSD) then ask for a 1515. Then look at the threaded end of each filter. comapre the stock fitler to the size inlets/outlets of the 1515. The 1515 has the same base as the full flow filter used on the Amsoil remote full flow filter. It will become crystal clear.

That's what I had, the BMK-16. Like said above, stay away from the dual bypass setup - the single bypass systems (Listed as options) are much better for the 7.3L.
