Ok so I have PHP tunes and I run in my 80hp daily driver tune. Going to get a cold air intake and a 4in exhaust just wondering what kind of mpg I can expect. With those mods

Ding Ding we have a winner. If you drive like a pissed off 16 year old. You might not get the best mpg. But if you go easy with the skinny petal you can get upwards of 17-20 mpg.

I get between 8-18mpg typically, depending on how late I am.

LOL I am ALWAYS late!?

My fuel mileage with the 80hp daily drive went too just over 16mpg, I don't pound on the truck. I did try the 100hp performance and got over 16 1/2mpg, so the idea of more power and fuel mileage I licky:evil

not sure what hp tune was on my old chip but with an intake and 4 inch exhaust to stacks i got 16 city 20 highway driving like a happy child who just got something they didn't want to break (didn't work by the way haha)

Multi-pulse injection, aka split shots are suppose to be more efficient and smother running then single shots. Thats why they switched them over in the SD's. Muiti-pulse injection is the norm with new diesels today including cars which explains why they are getting more and more efficient every year.
You should shut up... You clearly know nothing of the PSD injector...

Your also not getting 19mpg, not even close to that...

Besides how hard you stomp the skinny pedal, speed is probably the biggest killer, at 70 on fairly flat terrain I get 18, at 75 I get 16.5, that and aerodynamics are big one on a long trip ill bring my mirrors in and I sweat its good for another 1 mpg

Split shots heui is a totally different concept than split shot injection on anything else. Singles get better mileage, it's not some theory. Talk to anyone who has ran both.

Like.. Joe. For example.

 Split shots are multi pulse whether you want to admit it or not. You have the pilot shot then the main shot of fuel. TWO shots, more the ONE. MULTI. LOL The only difference HEUI's have from everything else is they are fired hydraulically, hence the "H" in HEUI and not electronically like everything else. And before we start jumping to conclusions on who has what and whose run what, should probably understand that more people than just Joe have had both. Not trying to start a big pissing match but people need to do a little research before hand.

You should have stopped when you were behind... Now its quite clear you dont know dick about your truck... Sad really, someone trying to give advise on things they know nothing about...

So you're telling me you think the IDM sends more than one pulse to fire the two shots?
Nope... He is trying to tell you the PCM does... Its mor betta...

So What realistic for ppl with bigger single stage injectors to get? I know ill clearly pump more fuel but I shouldnt get Worst mileage then say stock injectors If driven the same right?
Single "SHOT" not stage...

It completely depends on the size and tuning. My wifes Excursion on 37's with AC's gets 16.5 almost all the time. Around town it will drop to 14-15 but for the most part its 16.5...

Mine with 250/200's was getting 14-15 empty and 11-12 pulling....

Stepped back down to 230/100's in the new motor and I bet its back up to 15+ but have not checked.

To a certain extent. A SD or cali obs could actually see a bit of an increase. But big nozzles (200&400) chances aren't as good. And again, this depends LARGELY on driving habits.
Larger nozzles do not mean worse mileage... good tuning and a 200% nozzle can make a very clean, very nice running truck.

400% nozzles are a bit harder, but I dont know anyone that is trying to DD a truck with 400% nozzles.

The PCM controls the injectors, IDM just amplifies the voltage to the level needed to fire them. And yes. Think about what you are saying. In order to have two shots of fuel there is more then just one signal to the injectors per injection cycle... Controlled by the PCM not the IDM.

LOL...

Can you please show me on the wiring what wires go to the injectors?

You again, should stop... You have no idea what your talking about. NONE. ZERO...

The split shot on a AB or AD or BI injector is 100% mechanical. It recieves ONE signal from the... Wait for it... From the IDM which fires the injector... Once that process has started the PCM has NO control over the injector.

CR injectors are controled directly from the PCM. It can command 4-5-6 even more injection events in a single stroke. You get one shot with a 7.3...

The problem here is that you're going with what makes sense to you. That's not the case. The split shot is part of the design of the injector. It only receives one signal. Albeit a longer one. The time between shots is decided by the port in the barrel. There's no controlling it via tuning.
shhhh... its more fun to watch smarty pants trip over himself.

I did get 19 mpg with my obs twice. Hand calculated, all highway, stock tires, stock lift, edge tuner, kept it under 65 the whole time. Never seen that mileage again with any of my trucks cause I just can't drive that slow lol.

Just ran 900 miles in my current truck, half of them loaded with 10000#s Averaged around 11 mpg for trip. Average speed about 72.

Speed and right foot control mileage. These things are bricks.
Down hill both ways... LOL

It can happen from time to time, but with a lift and larger tires... Nope, your in the 13-15 range tops. Anyone that says different I can tell is FOS right off the bat, as I clearly caught our friend here.

With that theory, then why do you need custom tuning w/ a SD to run single shots if its all in the injector and not the tuning?
Because it takes different SOI, ICP, DC and PW to fire a single shot properly then with a split.

There is still only one injection event per stroke.

Because it requires a longer pulsewidth, along with different SOI. You only get one chance to tell the solenoid to fire.

It's no theory buddy. I'm not trying to make you look dumb.
Yes you are... Dont try and suger coat it...

You don't " have" to have different tuning to run singles in a SD. Idle quality is poor but once you get it above idle they'll actually run half way decent.
My old 250's on stock tuning... Someone was asking if they could run there truck for a short time without there chip...

Listen I'm not taking it personal, just arguing my side. Never said I knew it all and never will. I'm all for a decent conversation that something can be learned from. I see where your coming from and i will let it rest.

Probably could have said some things differently, but some people just get me wound up.

I already knew what you were explaining but just wasnt putting two and two together in context.

Until next time...
Nice cover... come back after you have read a book or two.

I believe that's the major reason its not recommended to run stock tuning on singles in sd's.
It wont hurt anything, just doesnt idle properly and comes off to idle rough.

Cool deal, just trying to be informative..

Agreed. I believe it's raised CP thats the issue, on pmrs specifically. But I'm not certain.
Not really cylinder pressures, just idle issues.

The way it works up to a certain injector size is that your foot is in the pedal less so better mileage.

Both those times were before this ultra low sulpher crap we have to run now. Have no proof what so ever, but I'm convinced that stuff hurts mileage.

I have to agree with that. Only one place around here sells 45 and when I have to get fuel somewhere else I drop atleast 1.5-2 mpg. I can say my old 97 with 35s and 4" got 18 pretty consistent unloaded and being nice to the skinny pedal. But put some weight in it and it was down around 12 quick. My buddy and I were just talking last night about how odd it did with milage for being lifted and such( it was his truck before I got it).

your 97 also probably had 3.55 gears
I have added some different snake oils and gotten 1-2 mpg back ..but more of a pain to remember what to add when etc..

ok I want to say this. growing up we had a F350 with a 100HP chip, 6 speed tranny 3.73 gears. It was a dually and weighed in at 11500 pounds being that it was our work truck and was full of tools with the tool box bed on it. we had 40HP injectors installed a triple disk clutch and ran off road in it all the time. (SHHHHHHHH) I know for a fact that that truck got 19 without towing a trailer because I have hand calculated it. the meter on the ceiling said 19.5 and my stepdad hand calculated it. so I don't know what it is that caused that but it happened.
