Got em on the pulling truck. Huge sound difference! I think they make a decent dent into performance when you have big inejctors and lots of air.... not so much of a performance difference with just and intake, exhaust, and a chip. Maybe Dave has some better data on lightly modded trucks.

Start the video at :40, and it's a noticeable difference. I always wanted the mix in sound between the raspiness of a 6.0 but the deep throaty sound of the 7.3... These do it, and sound great. On a stock style turbo, they make absolutely no difference in sound, my buddy put a set on his truck with a 38r and it sounds like a waste of $1000. They do sound great and are very well built pieces but I couldn't tell any difference at all in performance when they were added. That said, it won't hurt anything but your pocket book.

 

just cause something does not add HP does not mean it will be good for a engine did anyone notice a drop in EGT's?

b) do they reduce egts compared to the UGLY cast iron lumps?

if you answered yes to both then we have a winner.

I don't know if they lower egts because I can hold my truck full throttle up to 100mph and I only hit 1000-1100 egts so I don't even pay attention anymore to that gauge.

But they are built very well imo. I've had mine on and off several times for other reasons and they are nice and flat, seal perfectly, etc...

 

A. From what I can see Saber, they sort out the confusion of the log manifold and smooth up the flow so that it gets to the up-tube in a much more organized manner.

If you look at a log manifold, with different firing orders of the V-8 engine, it must be a catostrophe in there. When exhaust flow from one port comes out and hits a solid cast iron wall, deicides to turn left or right and get hit by the other pulses that is coming at it nothing but bad happens to exhaust flow. Take to water hoses and spray one 90 degrees to the other and you can see the confusion.

B. On my lowly HP 97 OBS (just a little bit above stock), I see about a 100 to 125 drop in peak EGT's, and the other one that really showed up was 60 to 70 degree drop on cruise control flat land driving. You probably want to know what my peak EGT is, and it is around 1150 in overdrive with the 38 ft Avion in tow going up a slight rise at about 1750 RPM.

On a side note, I have gotten to see the dyno sheets of a GM D-Max (Sled Puller) with and without headers. Their headers are made similar to the 7.3 and they did not change the peak hp (600 +)or torgue (1100) numbers. But what they did was decrease the total time of the pull from the start to peak torque by 10 seconds. They were blowing so much fuel at that engine, that they could actually put the flame out with the stock cast iron headers. When they did the pull with the headers on, they could almost use full throttle. The pull with the cast iron headers took 19 seconds and with the headers on it took just over 9 seconds.

Couple of other strange things on that system was that they were playing with small tube headers and larger tube headers. Until they had the engine well over 600 hp, the small tube headers kicked the poop out of the big tube system. Once they put a big turbo on and started going on up to over 700 hp, the big tube units came to life.

On my truck I have the small tube headers and from what I see at the 1/8 mile drag strip it lowered my times by 3 to 4 tenth of a second. I have the prototype system for the OBS. To answer you questions of when for the OBS, I think they said in about 6 weeks to 2 months for limited availability.

I do know that Imeleo had them on his truck and they survived.

Charles, no, if they could stay like that, sexy! However ugly as road salt baked on, driving through rain, alot of stuff got on them and made them look bad, thats why im coating them, so they always looks sexy but a different color.

In my avatar, i probably hit 22-2300*, i am guessing. The gauge goes to 16, needle stops at ~18, and i pegged that about 4-5 seconds into the run in the video, and stayed it, i dont know oh 15-20 seconds, so i know it got hot. That's why the phucking thing is broke :doh:

 

Awaiting a set of DI headers. They can't be bad for ya they can only help. Instead of the air moving around in the manifold all confused it will keep it collected and moving in a straight line to the turbo and out the exhaust pipe.


O and PowerstrokeJunkie that is an awesome picture. Crazy hot right there.

 

One reason people might see quicker spool could simply be due to the (relatively) thin walled SS header not pulling as much heat out of the exhaust when you first rail on it, where the massive cast manifold would suck a bunch of heat out just like a heat sink.
