6.7 turbo surging issues. (especially those tuned!)

Hey guys we've had a couple issues with turbo surging at our altitude especially once tuned. Some trucks seem to have it and some don't. I just had a truck with a really bad surging issue that we played with. Well after some talking with Charles at KEM we found a fix by adjusting the wastegate!

You can take both dipstick bolts out and get in there without removing anything. Once those bolts are removed you need to break loose the jam nut on the adjustment rod on the gate. Then I used a 10mm flex head gearwrench and took the 2 nuts off the back of the vaccum diaphragm that the Gate hooks too. Once the nuts are removed I turned the rod counter clockwise to extend the rod 1 full turn. After reassembled I took it for a test drive. The issue was almost non exsistent. Between Charles and I we have done this too probably 4 trucks that have had the surging problem. It has fixed all of them. After doing this I monitor the boost pressure and back pressure with no problems.

Thought you guys may like to know this that had the problem. Like I said I've just seen this on some of the trucks, not all. But it is an easy fix that works.

I heard about that today as well. Do you remember the boost it limited it too?

Oh ok. Gotchya. I haven't heard of many surging stock. They were all tuned and deleted. But idk. I don't think mine does it.

I have a 11 f350. Deleted with minimaxx. At idle I can hear the turbo spool up a bit, then back off. It will do it several times then will stop. Sometimes it does it and some times not. But always at idle. I don't notice any surging while driving. Is this one of the problems your talking about? Will your fix affect my truck at all. Thanks

I had surging with my truck stock and now with it tuned. I don't feel as if can fix this myself

What exactly does adjusting the waste gate do. Besides fix the surging? It is lowering the amount of boost that is put out?

are you guys saying this will give it a little more boost as a side affect of adjusting it? i say this because mine has never hit 24. 20-22 normally.

my surge was fixed with the Ford PCM/TCM along with H&S mini max update. I went ahead and had ford install the new 2012 turbo just for insurance down the road

I also ran the KEM tunes and had the severe boost oscillation. I adjusted the wastegate and it was better on manual control, but worse on cruise on any little hill. Before wastegate adjust you couldn't feel it, just watching the gauge going crazy. Now with the wastegate adjusted you can feel it surging.

I have several emails into KEM spanning this week without reply. So, I took the KEM tunes out. Between surging and the trans acting crazy it just isn't worth the risk especially when the dyno proves there's no more power to be had than the stock H&S tunes (KEM does make more torque, I'll give them that.)

I spoke to H&S about the boost and the adjustment to the wastegate, their response was that I should put it back to stock. Maybe you guys have littler hands than mine, but there was no getting at that puppy w/o taking the intake manifold off. That was fun, lots,...not.

Here's vids of the boost oscillation

After wastegate adjustment (it's calm on flat roads, but you see where I pick the camera up to see the little hill in the road ahead, then it starts oscillating.)

After looking at the soot buildup under the intake, I may just delete this thing and be done with the nonsense. I'm attracted to running clean and green, but not at the expense of the motor.
