Hi, my truck runs really rough at idle and when I hit the throttle it does the same the rpm go up and down.
I try to disconnect the ICP and the EBP sensor but it changes nothing.
I use SCT ITSX to monitor the sensor but I can't find the sensor HPOP and IPR I try to find it whit live link but no success.
sometimes its hard to start and I need to turn the key on, off couple time and it will start.

I have the truck until 2012 and it was used so I don't know what was done on it except what I did (FICM and Blue spring upgrade)
I have a Video of my truck running rough but I don't know how to Upload.

If someone has an Idea of what it can be?

thanks

Injectors, standpipes and dummy plugs and sct fitting, crappy fuel filters the list can keep going, you really need to look over the bases and get a good scan tool on it

What I suspect is fuel pressure but need to find a pressure gauge.
the first time it happens it was after fueling the tank almost empty, and it happens immediately running rough, idle going up and down.
the engine stalls every stop. I was at a camping so let the truck sit for the night and the morning after it won't start, try a couple time and it starts and runs fine
for 2 days, so I change the fuel filter at home and run the truck for a week without trouble and now again it runs rough.
Do you think I can something in the tank that can cause this problem?

I will test the fuel pressure tomorrow.

thank
and sorry for my bad English.

well if it happened after the fuel was run low, you might have crap in the fuel pump now so i would then be pulling it apart and cleaning it out.

#6 ·
not a problem, and dont just pull the fuel filter out, also pull apart the water separator and remove the cover to it.... i cannot tell you how many have surprises in there besides just water.

man i have seen them soooo neglected, that the drain plug only has one round of threads. or when i twist them to pull them, they disintegrate with nothing left, those really confuse me as to how it was even holding itself in there while under pressure.....

Yeah.... mine stripped going in......
Still need to fix it...

I remove the fuel pump clean see the picture of the pump it reinstall and prime it 5 times before starting it.
still running rough wait for temp be normal and try running rpm around 1800 it sounds better but nothing change.
it running better when is hot but still sound like missing.
try to disconnect ICP but it still running rough.
I monitor some gauge at normal RPM
ICP Duty cycle is around 0.28
Injection control pressure is 4.25 mpa and higher
engine load moving a lot at idle and more stable at high RPM
VGT duty cycle not moving at all even at 1800 Rpm but I'm not moving whit the truck.

next, I stop the truck and restart start well and running fine but not try on the road
I will try later on the road, and see if its ok but last time it was going well for 2 days and start doing it again.

thanks

well, i can honestly say its not one of the worst ones i have seen...

since you have done the FICM, my next bet would be to do a buzz test or have someone do a buzz test.... i could possibly see you having injector issues. meaning they are on there way out the door.....

Well, this morning truck star well runs well.
go for a ride will see, do around 5 miles and stop it try to restart 1h later and it won't start.
crank normally for 3 sec and after it sounds like he will start but don't.
so I cycle the key couple time and he starts but running rough.
I think I will buy auto enginuity to deeper scan.

well after your drive i would look at the HPOP system as a whole.... you are getting long cranks or no starts and you have cleaned up the fuel system....

honestly i figured it will ultimately be a high pressure issue, but when you said you ran the tank low and then the issue started fuel would be the reasonable direction... i would still do a bubble test and check the upper fuel bowl for bubbles while cranking and crud from the fuel pump and that will cross the fuel system completely off.

#15 ·
I did the bubble test and no bubble and fuel getting back in the bowl rapidly.
and I order the Auto enginuity I should have it be the end of the week.
I will be able to do more test and back whit some result.

well if you are having no bubbles then the injector seals are holding up as they should, sooo something in the HPOP system is bleeding off somewhere and not holding pressure as it should. rough running could be injector issues or HPOP system issues, if you are wanting to tear into it in the mean time, i would get the stand pipes and dummy plugs in it. the kit is like $250 from Ford. replacing these will also cross one more thing off the list as to what it could be.

I mean there no bubble at all.
the FICM was changed with the FICM REPAIR.
and I already bot the dummy plug and standpipe I need to install it.
I also bot the STC fitting, I plan to do it at the same time.

I did the buzz test result look good no trouble.
IPR around 33 % at idle.
truck running not so bad at first but when I stop, it does not restart so ICP was around 300psi
I disconnect the ICP and it starts but continues to run rough and rpm go up and down from 500 to 700 and
I saw VGT going up to around 80% and the engine die.

I'm lost, I will change ICP and pigtail for sure.
I will change the EBP to it look a bit high to me is around 20psi and baro are around 14,7.

One more thing How I can see the HPOP on the auto engenuity scanner if it possible.

thanks all for your help.

More result
I deed the KOER test when the truck running rough and during the test, truck running fine
right after the test engine running worst and the IPR was at 84,77 and ICP at 446 psi

so it means something wrong whit HPOP like SCT fitting butt
what bugs me, I stop the truck restart and everything looks good. the engine was at normal operating temp.

is it possible having HPOP intermittent problem? even is cold or hot.

I add a screenshot of the sensor during rough idle.

thanks

So after a change the ICP my truck running fine for a week and start again to idle erratically.
I disconnect the ICP look ok for a day and now even ICP disconnect it idle erratically.
and one new symptom today the transmission was shifting higher than normal.
I will do some monitoring tomorrow

I run Buzz test 5 time and everything look ok to me, I'm not expert but all injector sound good.
I need to get the tool to remove IPR and check it.

is there a way to test IPR when its remove?

thanks

So I clean the IPR change the screen but no test on it I don't know how to test it when is unplug.
Change ICP and connector.
Change oil and add Archiol.

truck work great after 4 days but it looks like he will start doing again
today I did hard accel and it dies directly restart ok but not sure what it means.

I need to order more part before a get my truck in the garage for a lot of work.
where I can buy the best rebuilt kit for turbo?

thanks, everyone
