That was my first thought. I have seen many time on the 7.3 someone leaving the sealing washer off or not removing the old one.

I also thought it could be something like that. It isn't that because they were in truck for 7 months.

Any other causes???

 

over torque will not cause them to break instantly, if they are on the verge of breaking then they will hold for some time then start to give after time from the molecular structure of the metal deteriorating from the vibration caused by the engine

 

Anyone making better bolts for the application.

 

Shouldnt need them. Stock ones hold just fine.

he used german spec... 'gooten tite'...

and for future ref, its 24 ft lbs...

 

very good reference to factory ford spec, i know elite torques theres to 36ft lbs, but are using a different style copper washer i beleive.... mine are torqued to 32 ft lbs to deal with high cylinder pressures than factory level.... we will see what happens

 

Actually the late year model (Jan-06 to 07) injector hold downs have a Ford spec of 26 ft-lbs (I forget what TSB it is in, but it is in the WSM also). Many techs are torquing to 28 ft-lbs and have had no problems.

 

Yea I did one set of Elite's. I read the paper and it said 36 ft lbs so I threw it away and laughed... I then looked at the copper washer and it was twice the thickness of stock.... I was like 'ohhhh'

 

Yeah. That helps raise the injector and alter injection timing a little bit. But not in a good way.

 

I wondered how that would effect things.

 

I wonder if it is possible to warp the injector tube?? Did he forget to reset the torque wrench after tightning the head studs?LOL
