Has anyone had a 6.0 catch fire? my 06 f250 did about two weeks ago. was going down the road and started smelling diesel real bad pulled over and noticed and noticed smoke from under the hood. raised the hood and was met by flames. has anyone had anything similar happen? the last time any work was done was when we put studs and new headgaskets. it probably could've been saved if the fire dept would've got there in a reasonable amount of time. the station they came from was 2.3 miles from where i was and it took them over 45 min to get there. and to top it all off i had a box of shells for my pistol inside the cab going off.

That Blows pretty hard man! It completely wiped it out, that was a nice looking truck..
My wife had a 89 Thunderbird and I had problems with the alternator for several years, the dash lights would flicker and voltage would go up and down then be fine for a while until alt would go out.
One day she was at grocery store and she came out of store and it was in flames. Fire dept showed up pretty quickly but the engine compartment was done, crispy. IT was a dead short in the alternator that ignited the output cable and all the plastic, cable lining ect caught on fire and it was all over with.
Maybe your fuel filter cap or a line craced and must have hit the exhaust near the turbo??

Sorry you have to go through that, we had AAA and they paid us quite a bit over blue book, it was a prestine TBird SC in like new condition. Hope you come out as good as we did with your insurance.
Best of Luck in getting another nice one...........

And I doubt anything is. It got got enough to melt all the aluminum off the motor. And also melted the aluminum wheels.

I went back and figured just how much money I had in that truck and it was over 15000 2 weeks before it happened i put new 44" tires and a hydro assist steering. On top of all that my fiance had helped me do everything to it. We had spent roughly 2 years working on it. She was the one driving when it happened and I had to watch her cry. She keeps thinking it was her fault.

When you put everything back together, did you install the bolt that holds the fuel return line from the passenger head up the the fuel filter housing? It's a pita to put back. It goes up near the bottom of the intake and is tough to put back because of the fan shroud. It goes through a tab on the fuel line and if it isnt installed, the fuel line will vibrate and eventually fatigue the metal enough to break. Fuel will start leaking out and the airflow pushes it back towards the manifold and downpipe. Truck will still run fine since its a return line so there wont be any others symptoms besides the smell when driving.

Ask me how I know:doh:

from what i've read and they've come up with it had to have been the rubber lines right above the manifold. still fighting with the insurance company at the moment been almost three weeks and they're still stalling!

well insurance related, my girls sister totalled our 2007 audi, we had state farm on it and in 4 days we got the car paid off and the rest of the money back to us. They actually gave us a couple thou over KBB.
and on another note...

They might be investigating you. Friend of mine had his car stolen, they pulled all his bank accounts and savings and interrogated him for about 2 days to see if it was insurance fraud. They gave him the round around for quite a while. hopefully they arent doing that to you.

I keep getting told "just a few more days." but after talking to my attorney and a few other people they say fire and theft claims usually take this long. but you would think 3 weeks would be long enough... last time u had a claim it was a wreck and geico had it settled in 3 days.. proggressive has just about made me loss the 08 i was looking at because my bank didn't wanna loan me the money until the other was done and the guy who has it is getting tired of waiting so i finally said forget it and payed cash. going to pick it up monday. but i would stay away from progressive.. this is was my first and LAST time to use them.
here are some pics of the new one

The guy I'm getting it from had it live tuned by innovative diesel. Already has the dpf and egr delete along with a few other mods.

did you have full replacement on your truck, so they will pay for everything you had done? I think they call it agreed value insurance?
