Looking over a friends 04 F-350 extended cab dually. Truck shut off on him and wont restart. Said this happened a few years ago and a cut wire was found and spliced and been running since.

I hooked up AE, all oil pressures look great. Ran a buzz test and hear nothing. FICM reads 40v and 10v at all times, Sitting and cranking.

Installed a known good FICM and two new batteries ( originals needed replacing anyways), same thing with no change in FICM readings.

Cut back harness and found where wires have butt spliced and plan on redoing the joints with solder. Also saw the wires for the fan have some bad spots and will fix those as well.

What rpm does it need to read to fire also? thanks ahead of time guys.

What about fuel pressure? IIRC, AE can't see FP. And, what was the wire in question? Also be careful about soldering. Be mindful of surrounding temperatures. I'm a huge fan of Hi-Line Crimp-N-Seal connectors. However, they're not widely available, and you need a good quality crimper tool.

Rpm should be fine then. Fuel flow and pressure are fine.

Lots of wires are chaffed and have nicks, have most repaired so far. Ran a buzz test with no response from any injector and says test complete. Its like the FICM is missing one of the supplies or something.

Have a few more things to check and will update.
Still getting P0611 FICM Performance and P1378 FICM system low voltage codes

Yep, that's my next step. Went by a buddies shop before work to drop off the FICM I borrowed from him to check with and he printed me off the wiring diagrams for the system with plug layouts and all that good stuff.

Well had good voltage to the FICM plug from the ignition, but none on the other wires from the aux. relay box under the hood. Relay was switching and fuse from it to the FICM plug was good, but no power passing through. Had no power from the 50 amp fuse that passes through the relay. Pulled fuse, it was blown. Went ahead and pulled everything else to make sure they were all good lol. Couldn't tell with it plugged in. He said he had already checked all the fuses but guess I should have double checked first. O well, at least the wire issues will be fixed now hopefully. Gonna try and get her cranking before work tomorrow night.

Trucks up and running good. Fixed all the questionable wires I could find, replaced the 50amp fuse, and put the proper fuse back in the aux. fuse panel. Fired right up. Re-taped and wrapped the engine harness and have her all back together and running.

Thanks for the input guys

Hard to believe a fuse will cause that much headache huh. Lesson for tonight...always double check what others claimed they have already done! Glad it's squared away though.

Exactly. I had glanced in the panel, but you cant really tell when its dark out using a flash light. (working nights right now so not much sunlight when I had time to mess with it).

I should have taken pics of the butt splices I fixed. You don't need to strip out an inch and a half of wire lol. Everything is back together, heat shrinked, glass tape wrapped and then another layer of tape. Hopefully that holds up better.

Just gonna add this...
My truck (2005F350SUPERDUTY6.04x4CRWCABSRW) had been down for dam near 6months, replaced FICM, TWO NEW BATTERIES, IT KEPT BLOWING ECM FUSE#22... I CHECKED WIRES TIL THE COWS WENT TO SALEBARN...
Two days ago I unplugged fan clutch. "BAM" WOOHOO!!! hasn't been any issue, no over heat, course we will see it is starting on summer here in Texas.
Back in November going down the highway, hussy just SHUTDOWN... 🤠

Well you did ask for help, but didn't ever answer any questions for clarification ...........

And if you had done the testing recommended in your Fuel Pump thread probably would have quickly narrowed it down to a short in the Fan Clutch or Fan Clutch wiring - it is common for those issues to cause the fuel pump not to come on. Blowing fuse #22 (due to the short described above) shuts down PCM Power so it doesn't supply the FICM with voltage and the fuel pump doesn't get commanded to turn on.
