it takes some doin clutch is different, slave cylinder is different, i am not sure about the OBS transfercase, i used a superduty transfercase. the 6 speed is longer so you need to lengthen your front drive shaft and shorten your rear drive shaft. you will also have to move your crossmember back and drill new holes. i used the superduty crossmember sincei had to drill new holes anyways and i didnt have to beat the hell out of the floor to make room for the tranny to clear.
 
what about doing a one piece rear shaft? most newer trucks have them. also with the truck being together for a while how does it drive? mine is a five speed and i would like to swap to six speed.
 
It's been. Year since this thread had any action but I have a question that wasn't covered at all. Do I need to source a zf5 access plate for the trans tunnel? I have both shifter boots from the superduty so I suppose I could just cut mine to fit. If the zf5 panel works I would prefer to do that. I already have the zf6, transfer case, crossmember,clutch and flywheel, shifter and boots, drive shafts, wiring harness, zf6 master and slave and all the bolts. I need the obs pedals master cylinder and hose and maybe the trans tunnel panel. I'm located in MA if anyone has what I need

I know this is an old thread, thought I would reply since I just finished a ZF6 installation and getting rid of the carrier bearing and going to a one piece rear driveshaft. Got a few thousand miles on it now and it seems fine.

I have a 96' auto that came factory with a ZF-5, but some yahoo did an auto conversion on it. One day I hope to put a ZF-6 in it.

Right now I am sorting out weak spots, and after I sort out the body this is next!
