I had XM, but didn't renew it when the time came after 2 years. It was alright at first but then they started running commercials. By the time I let it expire a couple of the channels I listened to almost had more commercials than songs.
I've been thinking about going with Sirius because thay have Nascar and football. I also think they have all around better programing.

I will be the one to attest I have both services almost 3 years now and will give you my opinion.

XM's music library per genre' is the largest but their sound quality over satellite is starting to suck more as they changed the codec which makes it sound more tinny with less Bass and I need my deep Bass & high Treble notes.:rockwoot:

Sirius has a wide selection of Rock channels with slightly better over the satellite sound quality but the rotation of songs is very repetitious.

For the online service both offer at no charge to the regular subscription.
XM's sound quality is hands down the best as they upload at 64kbps which is about CD quality.:rockwoot:

Both have excellent receiver options.

Come later in the year or early '08 they(if the merger goes thru) will offer al la carte programming;

50 Channels you select for $6.99 a month per receiver
Or the Everything Pak for $15.99 or $16.99 a month per receiver.

I'll go for the 50 Channel option so I can have all the Rock channels of both:rockwoot:

Stop in at a Best Buy or Circuit City as they usually have both hot in the audiophile rooms so you can try em both out on different receivers, amplifiers and speakers:cool:

Love my Sirius, what I don't like is the CRAP SACK quality of the Sat radio tuner for my Alpine head unit made by Directed Electronics . When switching between Sirius, IPOD, FM, DVD/CD what ever, at times I have to shut the ignition off in my truck and reset everything. THIS SUCKS!!!

Same company makes these things for both Sirius and XM. I have had two stereo shops tell me the same thing. The quality sucks and there is nothing I/They can do until these guys improve quality of the units.

Other than that I love it. I couldn't tell you the last time I actually listened to FM radio.

Is that supposed to say Sirius sound quality is best?

Actually, satellite audio quality is *WAY* below CD quality. On both systems.

HD Radio is the local radio stations attempt to take on satellite. It makes FM sounds like CD, and AM sound like FM. Currently they are running with no commercials for a year to drum up listenership, but I think in 2009 or 2011 or so, EVERYONE will have to have HD radio to get ANY local stations, as the FCC wants to reclaim the bands for emergency provider frequencies.

Analog is dead. First your TV, now your car radio.

I dont like paying for cable each month, why on earth would I want to pay for radio?!

I want to say over Satellite Sirius has a slight edge sound quality but not by much.

One thing that I've done really improves the sound quality is upgrading to a name brand stereo deck and upgrading from stock speakers.

Stop in at a CC or Best Buy and compare the two services to judge for yourself;)

Speaking of sound quality I received a copy of the email sent out to retailers on the 1st of August,I thought there was something wrong with the stereo settings yesterday morning when I come to find out this morning that XM & Neural Audio did a major upgrade for their over satellite broadcast streams :D:rockwoot:

If a head unit is sat radio ready(my alpine CDA9855), does this mean you just need to buy the reciever part and hook it into the radio? I would like to get it, but I want it to run through my radio, so I can control it through the alpine HU. Anyone know this?
