I am sure it has been asked a thousand times but I am looking for a little more info. I have read hundreds of posts on here of people saying things like a custom chip is a thousand times better or a custom chip is night and day difference. I would like to know some actual benefits. I am fairly impressed with the edge chip I am running on my truck. I do not tow a whole lot but I do on occasion. My truck is more so a daily driver and I see a lot of miles going down I-15 in Utah. I want to know if I will really appreciate the benefits of a chip by dp, Beans or so on and so forth. Has any one else made the upgrade and what did you think of them but most of all what were they? I appreciate all input so give me whatever you have got. Thanks!!!!

It is better for your trannys life.

You will generally get more HP TQ and safer more useful power curves.

You can switch it compeltely on the fly.

EGTs are usally lower

You can have numeorus tunes if needed and speciality tunes such as high idle, drive thru etc...

It also can be tweaked ifyou do not like somehting it can be changed. You do not liekthe way the shift point are they can be changed. A bit to smokey it cna be changed. TO high egts can be addressed. ETC

The more you chnage things such as injectors, Turbo, Fuel systems, tranny vavle bodies, water etc,,,

That can all be addressed with a custom tuner.

You are stuck with what you get form Edge and as its a one shoe fits all compromises had to be made. Consider that 99.9% od f the active memebrs on thi site use chips and if they had edges bully dogs etc they swapped over.

Some quiet reading for you to research chips and what will work best FOR YOU and YOUR GOALS.

As for tuners versus chips Tunes you can not switch tunes on the fly you also will be limited to generic tunes or only one maybe two custom tuners and then you will be very limited in your choice again. In just about every way the chip is better choice. One thing that can be of confusion on here if you are somewhat new is the use of the term "tuner". On here we are almost never referring to the device called a "tuner" but the person that actually is writing the tunes themselves for the chips.

I would say, easily, 99%+ of members on here and most other dedicated 7.3 sites use a chip not a tuner.

One other thing to keep in mind: the maker of the popular chip used by many tuners to installed there tunes on is the "TS chip" )6 position chip). But that same manf also sell that chip with generic tunes directly to the public as well. So you will see comments about "TS style chips" from one of the custom tuners you are about to learn about with some reading. You want the ones from the custom tuners not the generic TS chip and tunes directly from TS or others. You will quickly understnad the differnce with some reading.

I think that anybody you choose for custom programs, will show an increase over the Edge. Good luck, and I hope you read all of that... LOL

I have just changed from my edge evo. (the first model) that came with the truck to a DP tuner. Apples and Oranges bruva. The edge has nothing on the DP
TARM has pretty much covered the Pro's. All in all a custom tune is safer for ya motor and tranny. Dont dwell over it, just do it. There are plenty of custom tuners out there.

Only Con to a custom chip, is the constant smile on your face gets a little painful after a while.

LOL! Wow! TARM thank you. That is more reading then I will be able to do tonight. I think I will jump in and grab a new ts style switch. I like what I hear about Jodie and the DP Tuner but if You make your device propriatary like that You will lose some of my faith in you. Thanks for the input guys!

My opinion is I love my dp. They are all good tuners it's just personal prefference. My dp along with a jw vb works really well for me. I only tow with mine. The adrenaline pump made it even better. Which ever you decide on think about adding the Adrenaline. It really woke my truck up.
