has anyone thought about mounting a winch in the bed with the hitch rails.
5th wheel hitches are good for 15-20 klbs. id be using a winch around 12-15.
i can only assume that it would put similar stresses on the rails that a hitch would because the winch would put a slow steady load on the rails similar to towing heavy.

think its worth wild for me to try it out

It would have to be raised off of the bed. because you would either cut the cable on the tailgate and or the bed. this depends on what you intend on using it for. me personally would put it on a receiver hitch to move to front or rear. had 1 on a truck once. it worked great.

i would have it off the bed enough so the cable wouldnt touch but low enough to reduce as much torque as possible. its just one of a few ideas to use the rails for something other then a hitch. the winch in the bed and a pair or spades for my receiver and ill have a purity nice set up for doing beach recoveries.
