Newbie here...just curious who has the most miles on their 7.3 and if you guys have a bunch of mods or are you just running stock? I'm debating all the things to do but don't want to mess up this awesome motor. Just bought the truck in May and the only thing I've done is installed an AFE cold air intake...it made a huge difference. Thinking about a chip but I don't want to mess up the longevity of the motor in any way. Any advice would be helpful...thanks!

6.7 has 440hp stock. There internals are built stronger. With our 7.3, we can use the same if not superior parts to reach that horse power goal. We can be just as powerful just old but updated. So if you were to run tunes, I don't think you will end up with problems. Between both trucks I have 600k miles. One has 400k

These engines are tough. I wouldn't be afraid to run a chip. Gauges and/or a brain and you'll be just fine.

Intake, exhaust, and gauges should always be first mods. You have a super duty so exhaust isn't quite as important as it is for us obs guys. Then a good chip. Custom tunes are worth the money. Especially to keep the tranny happy if you have an auto.

An afe intake is a debatable mod for longevity. Many will tell you that the oiled air filters let in more air but also more contaminants. I personally run an oiled filter. Does it filter as well as a donaldson 6637? No. I tried the donaldson and hated it. I switched to the oiled filter and felt the difference instantly. My engine might not last as long as others but I bet it will make at least 400k miles and ill enjoy every second of it.

Keep up with maintenance, especially oil changes, and drive it. Easy peasy.

I just crossed 310k on my truck, which is my dd. Most Most filters are perfectly fine for your truck, K&N being just about the only exception. Getting a decent chip like a hydra won't hurt the engine at all, heck I've been running a generic ebay ts 6-position chip for over 20,000 miles and im still chugging along.

Thanks for the responses... I bought the truck with 204,000 and the former owner drove it like a grandma so I was kinda worried about changing up things too much since it's been stock since 99. The motor has been well maintained so it sounds like it can handle a little more power and hopefully better gas mileage

530,000 on 99 f250 all factory minus alternator and water pump. 202,000 on my 00 X intake ww2 exhaust Gauges and ts chip. If you aren't looking to go crazy and drive it like it's a race car I wouldn't hesitate to throw some power at it. The weakest link is the 4r100 in most cases. With that said my x behaves like stock with somewhere near an extra 100 hp when I turn the knob.

Fixin to hit 423K on my 1996....it does have a chip in the PCM but it was there when I bought the truck almost 10 years ago. It does have a K & N that is heavily greased top/bottom. As far as I know it is still all OE except for the A/C system and I just replaced all of it. I wish my speedo went higher cuz I would know how fast I was going in west TX. Full of fuel and me in it, tops the scales at 7120 lbs. I still get 20 mpg on the highway.

* oh yeah, if it is oily I burn it...last week it was some peanut oil, this week some old Kerosene and next week I have some ATF that's been sittin....finally saved enough money to purchase a Raw Power centrifuge to burn used motor oil and other oily materials. see how I did that....didn't use the word "wastes." Don't want to run afoul with the DOT/EPA.

Bought a 01 E350 with 384K on the clock.....digital dash is about to roll over back to 300....makes me wonder if it really has 484 or 584 on it. Bought it from a diesel shop when the owner skipped out on final bill
they gave me all the records...has a reman 7.3 and reman 4r100 in it so.....its not a real 384....regardless I cannot wait to start driving the van! it needs two back tires a U joint, battery and a wheel bearing then I can register it
My 97 is a baby at 209K and the Excursion is pushing 190K....just getting started

96 with 352,000 is when i rebuilt mine, but when we took it apart, it was actually still in great shape, I ended up doing an unnecessary rebuild. And it was not driven easily thats for sure.

I have 280k on my 99.5. Has a BTS tranny and a DP tune. Only concern I have and not sure how to handle is the rusting out oil pan. At the moment it is not leaking except for slight leak from dipstick flange, but it looks worse and worse every year.

Replacing it is probably your best option. Coat the new one with something like por15.

High 800km isn't unreal. Im knocking on 600km already and plenty of people have done twice that.

Mine has 355,000 miles and still get 24 MPG.

Stay after the rust. Truck should get you 800,000 miles in commercial service if you don't let the truck rust out around the engine.
