It's been a long time since I've been on this site, but it looks like I'm getting back into diesels. I found a 2002 7.3 6sp 2wd cclb xlt for sale with 31k miles really cheap. My question is what would y'all do with it?

I was thinking of swapping over an 05+ front and rear 4x4 axles and also swapping of the grill and headlights. Is this truck worth it to make a 4x4 and possibly upgrade from the bench seats to buckets?

Thanks in advance.

Honestly a 2wd diesel. Nothing is more reliable, but also its not 4wd so instead of going slow on the rocks, go REALLY fast through three foot whoops and jump it.

Intake
exhaust
tuner
injectors
HPOP
fuel upgrade

THEN......
Cage front to back, 4 link the rear
Equal length Giant Motorsports long travel beams.
39's
King coilovers and bypasses on every corner
PRP podiums in leather with heat and AC.

Let me know when you want to drop the truck off. >:)

the 2wd frame a coil buckets should accept the 05+ 4x4 supension quite easily. Its the transmission and t case, driveshafts part that will add a bunch of cost to the conversion
What do you plan to use the truck for?
How the heck does a 02 only have 31K miles!!?!?!?!?!

President, those are all interesting ideas, but I dont know about jumping a crew cab long bed.

410, I figured as much for the o5+ coil brackets. right now I only plan on using it for a longer trips. I have a corolla as my daily driver. The story of the truck is that it was owned by an old man who wanted to travel around with his in-the-bed-camper when he rertired, but when the time came, his wife wasnt up for it. So, all he did was haul firewood with it for a few years. He recently died a few months ago and now his family is trying to get rid of it.

Do you think swapping interiors to a lariat of king ranch would add value to this truck or would it be a waste of money. Either way, I'll probably upgrade the seats, I'm just curious. I know a lot of really picky people who would say "it wasn't built like that from the factory so its not worth the extra money".

That truck on eBay would bring $20k-$30k as is.

My question is. Do you really need a 4x4. Where do you live?

Lots of people think the 7.3 is the last good diesel ford had. Plus with the zf6. Its indestructible in their eyes. At 31k its just broke in.

I would buy it and just drive it. You will need 4x4 in Washington. I like the idea of a 4x4 swap.

That's a hell of a deal. I thought I found a one off when I bought a 99 F250 SD with only 56K miles 2 years ago. Now I'm almost up to 85K miles.

I live in western was, and I honestly don't think you'd need 4x4. I've used mine just a handful of times when not intentionally needing it. I think buy it maybe level the front 3nd a bit and drive it, and with the manual transmission you'll knock down some good mpg. 8f you're really worried about needing 4x4 consider a air of e-locker. It would be way cheaper then 4x4 swap and a fully locked rear and good driving is almost as good as 4wd. If doing a locker maybe change ring and pinion to something a little taller to improve mpg. Either way it would be a solid right. Good luck

Appreciate the responses. Should be picking it up tomorrow after noon. I think my first upgrade will be an 05+ front headlights, bumper, and grill. I see a lot of kits advertised, but I'm not sure if the parts they use a ford parts. Does anyone have any recommendations?

So, I'm looking at rear bumpers on LMC truck and the Tousley ford's website. Whats the difference in quality of the bumpers? I know LMC's are reproduction, and cheaper, but are they good quality? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Also has anyone use this site to swap you front ends? They have a complete front end conversion for less than $600

I used some lmc parts on my 1990 f250 (side mirriors), they are decent but hardware got surface rust within weeks. I'm sure most parts are pretty decent. Tousley has the best prices for oem, so I would try and use as much oem as possible. That said some parts are still really high so try after market. I am going to use a1 auto for 08 tow mirrors on my 02. For whatever it's worth.

Thanks! Another question... I found a complete frame with suspension from an 06 with 100k. What would that be worth? Guy is asking 1500 for it

4x4 needed in WA state? I don't think so.

The only exception would be if you're going to Eastern WA or going to travel over the passes regularly then yes, 4x4 would be preferred.

In western Washington a matched pair of axles sell for 800-1500, so I think that's fair. Ask why it's just the frame (maybe a rollover?) I'd do a quick check for square.

Post that sucker up on CL and see if any takers....it looks like one of those guard rail trucks that they park in front of construction sites to keep you from plowing into the workers
