there in amarillo, you can probably stick with 15w40 just fine, but as it gets colder you may find that a thinner oil helps quite a bit. lot of guys go with full synth 10w30 or 5w40 for diesels. i use 5w40 year round.
even if you go with 15w40, if you can find a deal on synthetic, 6.0s really seem to like synth.
absolutely lol, i bought my truck at 2016k miles with conventional 15w40 in it and it was extremely hard to start cold even at 40F ambient. i kinda think that if the PO would have used synthetic 5w40 that the injectors would be in better shape right now. the good thing is that as soon as i switched to a full synth 5w40, cold starts became much much easier and the 'stiction' symptoms aren't as severe. at least the injectors aren't getting worse... yet. . i think the treatments like archoil and revx that i've used probably helped a bit too.
the reduced warmup time makes it worth it to me lol! though, i'd imagine by now if i'd just gotten new injectors from the get go, i'd be ahead by now DOH!
I run full synthetic 15/40. I buy a 5 gal pail for $70 shipped to my house. @79jasper runs the more better stuff than I and it's about $120 for a pail. Plus it's red.
