I have bought the K&N cleaning kits before and they work fine. But what I'm wondering is if I can just use some 409 if I already have the filter oil. I mean 409 smells and feels just like the cleaner they give you in the kit. I have to clean my filter OFTEN and if I can save $10 a month by just buying the filter oil separate, a dollar saved is a dollar earned, especially in college. Any other tips?

I use some John Deere all-purpose cleaner from my work and it works great to clean the filter and it works better than the cleaner in the kits and the best thinkg about it is I get it for FREE.

I use some diluted oil eater in some water and soak it up to the plastic neck for little bit. Then take some low pressure water from the hose and rinse it from inside out. Then let it air dry and re-spray the filter with the oil provided.
