What converter are the guys using that don't have a built trans using? Mine has really started to build alot of heat when driving around town and when ever the converter is not locked up. More than it used to anyways, with 100 deg outside with the ac on in town it will creep up to 195-205 deg. If I'm going down the road over 45mph even with 6k in tow if will only see 180 @ best.

Never used to see over 180 unless I was towing even in town.

I think my converter is going south is this a good diagnosis? I want to get a JW trans not just ready for the $ it takes yet. I'm only at 65,500 miles.

Thanks guys, I can from TDS under a different name.;)

Can't say there was a noticeable difference in egt's.

I have done so much stuff since I swapped that I couldn't comment on boost either. I think the smaller housing might make more boost but really overdrive the turbo. The bigger housing is a little more efficient for drive pressure, etc.
I felt like it pulled a little harder on the top end with the larger housing.

The .84 kinda choked out at higher boost levels and the 1.0 seems to keep pulling.

My new tow master trans uses a new 6.4 converter. This converter is great
for the guy running 400 hp and less. The 6.4 and 6.0 have the same stall. But
the 6.4 now has harden splines and new design tripledisc clutch. I will be testing this converter in my friends twin turbo 7.3 just to see what it takes to break it! All of my billet converters are still built from new 6.0's. I buy them from ford and send them to TCS for building. Remember the big problem with
this trans is not the converter pursae. The problem is the stock frt pump can not keep the converter full of oil! No matter who's converter if you do not fix
the problem you have not fixed it at all!

Thanks, For the reply Transman ! I guess this would lead me to belive that I have 3 options:
1. Wait until the stock one completly dies then get a good rebuild.
2. Put good money in a bad trans and still need a rebuild. (throwing $ away)
3. Get a complete rebuild now.

Pretty close?

#1 - could do - but where will it let go - and let you down?

#2 - not much sense in this.

#3 - probably the best option.

What do you do to address the front pump issue? My new one comes with triple disk, but from what I have read on the other site all 02 and 03 trucks had them, Whats it take to run a 6.4 TC, cost I mean.

I guess myself and a few other guys would like to know can we or should we even try to fix the main problem with the 4r100 when replacing the converter. Or is fixing a low milage trans (my situation 65K miles) take the trans down to the point of almost better to rebuild because its torn down that far.

If we can fix it 6.4 converter, pump issues, and valve body short comings, ect. What are we looking @ $ wise? We know what a JW sub 400 hp trans costs so where are we at with a good fix?

Transman - I am in Northern California and plan of having a JW trans someday when I need it. I really find it awsome that you are willing to help educate us until we are ready for your full service. I have never been to a place where a professional is willing to give advice before you hand him $. Props to you!
