Truck is used for snow plowing and pulling trailer. With the plow going, strobes, heater, wipers, etc The factory one is starting to strain. Hasn't let me down yet with 81k miles, but I would like to have another one ready to go on the shelf? What is the stock alternator size and what should I go with? Another Motorcraft one? DC Power? What size? Batteries are a couple months old btw.

My primary is a reman action auto parts. My secondary is still OE. I obviously have two, though. Makes things easier.

I would go with a ford reman or a HO version.

Stock should be 110 amp which is kind of weak. I just replaced mine with a 135 AMP from Quick Start Alternators. I have a good sized sound system and DVD players plus all normal stock stuff and it works great. My 110 amp Motorcraft wore out to fast. Money well spent. DC Power is a great choice also, I just didnt have the money for them.

I have a 135 amp unit from Autozone. It is okay for me, but my biggest power drain is trailer lights. It sounds like you use a lot of electrical power, so a DC Power unit would be really nice. They're quite well respected. I sometimes wish I would have opted for one, but I was too cheap.

I do competition audio in my free time and if you're looking for something pretty fierce that will hold anything you throw at it look into Singer Alternators.
I have an OBS with a 275a hairpin unit on there with 4 extra batteries. :)

I have a xp270 amp alternator from DC power. I have had it installed for almost 2 years now. Even with a travel trailer in tow, a refrigerator plugged into a power port, rear entertainment system running, CB, GPS, wife's iPhone plugged in, and an inverter charging the kids tablet or other game system, I have had no problems.

I wasted a lot of time and money going with cheap autozone units. I went through 7 under the autozone warranty. They would work fine for a few months and crap out. I had the wiring checked and no problems. Installed the DC Power unit and upgraded the wiring and no problems since. Their customer service has been great also.
