Anyone have experience w welding a cast iron elbow? I need to shorten one off an he351 to make it work in my fummins project.

I know the following preheat to approx 500f.
Weld in one direction
Cool off slowly for approx 5hrs.
Using flux core mig?

forget it

and if u do try the wire won't be a flux core and you need gas

not to mention if you try to push wire through the gun have plenty of stuff to take your anger out on as you clear bird nests

they say it's possible but it's not practical you need a puller gun


take that elbow to an outdrive repair shop and have them do it for you

Forget about using a 110v buzz box with .035" to do it.

How does one weld in any *but* one direction?

When welding the root and fillers they are supposed to be welded in the same direction.

I found a cast elbow off an 8.3l cummins which may work. So hoping to go a different route.
