My name is Lee Hall from Beaumont Tx. I am new to this site. I have a 2000 f350 single wheel 4x4, coming to work this morning I lost power steering and battery light came on, got to work and leaking antifreeze.......... does anyone out there have any idea why all three would happen at the same time, I knew my batteries were getting bad, but if water pump is out why lose power steering?

Man, that is weird. Just a coincedence would be my guess.

Is the belt still on there, losing the belt would cause all three symptoms.

If the belt is gone, look for a frozen pully.

Welcome! Our resident super duper moderator PTSUPERD is from Beaumont I believe. :poke:

My guess would be the pump seized and caused the belt to slip. That would stop turning the alternator and ps pump.

Going from 2000+ rpms to 0 for the alternator could probably throw the battery light because the output would drop to zero.

Just a WAG though.

Let us know if you have questions swapping the water pump. Not uncommon!

whenever mine was going out, whenever the truck would get hot the battery light would come on and the steering would go out. i would let it sit, not knowing what was going on, and then everything magically worked again.it happened several times, and this is the conclusion i came to. i dont know why it does it, but it is deffinately due to the water pump going out.

Somthing is sliping, the alt and P/s just don't quit at the same time. There are quite a few idler pullies, check all of them.

Thats kinda what I'm thinking too, coolant is very slimmy, and if it gets wet enough I dought you would hear anything. I've cleaned under the hoods of cars and found the alt not even charging till all the water got off the belt.
