on average if all the ps engines were not leting any oil out of the ccv nobody would do this to keep the boots from blowing off the intercooler tubes. as far as the smell I agree just dont believe the lack of signs of oil.
No oil drops at all. Just some smoke when running. My hose goes back to the front of the fuel tank and is open to the atmosphere also.

It is when I did the CCV mod I plugged the hole in the plastic coupler instead of the 4X4 pipe.
So wear does the oil in the inter cooler tubes come from? has to come from some wear. If the smoke isnt smoke and is actualy vapor I might belive it. still think oil is going some place. if its a vapor and can build up on the walls of ic tubes means it can still build up under the body.

if i was going to do it that is how I would. to make sure that their was no low spots to get build up in the hose it self and to ensure no oil leaking. or to start making the seals leaking from building up a pressure. Even if you emptyied it once a year and only got one once or so it would be worth it to me. thats all Im realy getting at. Besides I think I made this get way off from the origanal subject and let it get back to it.

I hate to derail any further but the oil on the CAC boots is from the oil vapor from the CCV. If you do the CCV mod you will notice a slight coating of oil inside the hose but VERY little if any oil accumulation to drip. Just don't point the hose directly at anything and the vapor will stay airborne.

If you put a filter of any kind on the end of the hose it will try to separate the oil vapor from the air and make a mess. If you do it like everyone else the only thing you should notice is the smell.

I ran a 3/4in ID, 1in OD clear water hose for my ccv mod so I could visually see how much oil I am losing. I do not notice a major oil trail draining down the inside of the hose. Sure the inside of the hose is coated with oil vapor and I'm sure it drips a small amount of oil every once in a while, but I definately don't see any puddles under my truck.
I was under the truck today. I looked at the hose. You can see a film but nothing even close to a drip.

Same here :fordoval:

or just not do it all. Or will you guys try to convince my Im loosing hp from not doing it. :swordfight: havnt lost a ic boot yet and dont have a smell to wory about.

Come on Bill you know you want to do it! We did it on all of our Powerstrokes. Just get a piece of 4" PVC or steel pipe to install in place of the stock crank case intake exit. You'll flow alot more air! :D
Run a small hose down & zip tie it to the frame. Also make sure it doesn't touch the manifold while your at it! :poke:
just dont see a gain that is worth it. if it was about doing every easy mod out their just to have it Im sure I could do a foil delete, insulation delete, heck maybe even a filter delete then their is no restriction on air flow. that all has to be worth oh idk 150 hp at least:gun: show me the real gain from it then I will consider it.
the real gain is having a clean intake and CAC...

not losing IC boots is a nice bonus :D
I probably won't do it until I loose an IC boot due to it!

What a girl........
:gayfight:
You might not loose a boot but that oil coating the inside of the CAC isn't helping the heat transfer effiency. I have a road draft tube, simple and it works.
I like the idea of a road draft tube! that might just have to be a possibility!
i just did it while i was in there. took a whole 5 minutes extra. might as well do it while you can. cause when you decide to do it later on, your gonna have to take it all apart again.

If you have 5 mins I'll show you how to do it.
