I have been wondering how many people here have turned up an IDI pump? I know it isn't that hard, but I also have heard it's easy to go too much on a non-turbo engine. I plan on getting a pyro soon just to monitor what's going on in stock forum. As much as I love thick black smoke I'm not looking for that here. I just want a hair more power without getting too crazy. When I come across a good deal on a turbo I'll get one. Just looking for some feed back till then.

I did my old 89 IDI but I just gave it like 2 flats not really much. I bumped the timing up also. It would smoke alittle.

Pumps pretty easy to turn up. There is a triangular cover on the side of it that you take off by removing the two 1/4" screws and you will see the hole in the cam ring near the point of the triangular opening. Take a miror and look straight in and rotate the engine until you see a black alen screw in the hole. Turn it IN one to two flats of the alen wrench and put it back together. That should be enough to give you some more power but not make it make thick black smoke.

I haven't ever done it on the truck so I honestly couldn't tell you where the pointer is. But I imagine that doing them on the test stand is a WHOLE lot easier than in the truck. You got all kinds of room on the sides to work. :D

I found this site & it has good photos- http://www.members.shaw.ca/k2pilot/

I was bored last night & was priceing out Pyros & didn't realize that they cost so much. We bought the 3 gauge pillar mount & kit for Ma's Superduty & never saw how much the pyro alone costs! The Auto Meter Pyros are $130-$160+ or so. Does anyone make a Pyro for less than $100? Could I make one of those monitors like the Quadzilla RECON XZT Gauge work. It says all it needs is a 12v power source & the wiring to the probes. I'd rather have a good set of Auto Meters but I think I can make it work for $180. I think I'd be the first IDI to have one!
