Yes they just bolt on. How much depends on where you buy it. List price is around 1800, most vendors will sell for a bit under that. It's a very tough little turbo and will take a lot of abuse. Great small turbo for a compound setup as well.

You can also get a TN turbo that bolts on. There is the standard .84 and 1.0 for about $1300 from BWD or you could get the TN BB 1.0 for about $1700 from BWD as well. I have ran both the standard .84 and now I have the new BB unit in the EX. It spools really well and there is no hint of surge at my elevation of 7000ft. The GTP38R has been known to surge for some people so that is why I did not get that turbo.

I ran the standard drop-in TN .84 with my stock injectors, and it worked great. Spool-up was awesome, I didn't see any egt drop with it, but the top-end pulled harder.

It was a different story when I put the mini me's in though. Granted, the TN turbo still had the .84 housing on it, so I can't make an even comparison. But when I took it off and installed the GT-38R, my egt's came down over 100 degrees while cruising, peak boost is up about 6psi, and the truck is much stronger. I dynoed 389 with the TN unit, mini me's, and stock fuel system. With the 38R and completed fuel system I dynoed 443.

I'm not bad mouthing the TN unit at all, because it worked better than advertised with stock injectors, it just wasn't enough for the Stage III's.

what is a good turbo for a late 99' that will just bolt on and how much $$$
Well a good turbo that will just bolt on would be an H2E, then you have room to grow with many different turbos to choose from. But it is a little more than the afformentioned turbos, however it comes with a ton more stuff.

:stupid: , no offence......

After six or eight weeks of looking hard at turbos, I have gone with a modded H2E and am looking foreword to the future options. Like a K31 hybrid that Luke is running that laid down 600hp on fuel only.

The H2e does not just bolt on unless you mean after you change the uppipes, collector, pedestal, spider, downpipe and intercooler tubes and boots.

i like my turbonetics 1.0, and will be upgrading it to the ball bearing version soon. if you're looking for a good daily driver that'd fit the bill. if you're going to go with injectors it has handled up to stage 3s (530 hybrids), i believe black widow dyno'd 437whp and over 1000ft/lbs (stock fuel system and hpop).

Rockin, why would you buy a whole new turbo instead of changing housings? you could get a new BB CHRA as well for less than a new turbo costs... just curious?

I think the H2E is a bolt on. So is DI's 42r. It is not a drop-in replacement turbo. The 38r and TN are the only real drop-ins as they are a pedestal mount and utilize all the factory hardware and plumbing.

The H2E will simply bolt in the truck, but there are a lot of parts that need to be replaced, but it is all just bolt on as there is no fab work needed for a regular H2E installation.

Well, it's a long story. But the short version, I got a chance to try the Garrett, so I put it on. It worked so well that I decided to keep it and not bother with swapping housings on the TN or upgrade it to the BB unit.

I sold the TN to a fellow PSN member and he sent it off to get upgraded by TN. Besides there are literally hundreds of trucks running the 38R with mini me's, its a proven combo that works great for a daily driver. Overall, I'm very happy with the set-up.

Sorry to hijack the thread
