I got my BD's (with .0075" EH PSD nozzles) and headstuds installed this weekend. The new injectors are great, and now I'm looking for some suggestions and opinions on what would be a good turbo upgrade. The van turbo I have now will work for a while, but EGT's are out of control. I quickly saw 1550* on a WOT run from a stop, before I backed out of it.

Since I drive my truck every day for work, driveability is something that I'm taking into consideration. I'm not looking for a drag race or sled pull monster, but am targeting somewhere around 500 RWHP.

Based on some opinions I've gotten from talking to a few people, I'm looking into a modified H2E, but would like to get some opinions from you all as well. Thanks for the advice. :D

the new t-series and GT-K turbo kits are out for the 7.3. i have been salivating over them and actually mad i didn't wait for the kits, and that's definitely the route i'd go because you get the flexibility of being able to change sizes + ball bearing spool. .02

IMO you will want a valve spring upgrade
I guess I can hijack my own thread...so how difficult is a valve spring upgrade, and what are the consequences of not doing it?

CSI, I haven't ruled anything out yet.

As far as modded H2E's, I know there are a couple different variants out there, such as Bean's and Hypermax. Performance wise (spool, EGT, backpressure, etc.), what are the differences between them? Quicker spool is something that is important to me since I do a lot of driving around in town.

Edit: DSD, are these available through Black Widow?

Im not sure how hard it is to swap in the truck, ive never done it. I know there is several guys that have though. If you dont upgrade springs you can run into valve float from the higher boost and rpms which can bend push rods and break rocker arms.

Thanks Luke. I'd imagine if you rotated the engine around to have each piston at the top, and do one cylinder at a time, it could be done in the truck without too much difficulty.

I talked to Ken at BDW a couple of weeks ago regarding the T66 with the mounting kit. The kits are a couple of months out. Mike is running one of the kits on his truck right now. I like the way the t-netics kit looks with the V band clamps.

Actually, a ceramic ball bearing T70 is a great daily driver, and makes 500+ with small B codes. Our T4 kits will be shipping in the next week or so......

I could have swore that someone in the last week or two posted on here that they installed their valve springs this way. But for the life of me I can't find it. I even searched the other site to see if I was drinking that night I saw it. Hopefully someone will chime in who has done it.

Yep, you can just roll the cyl over to TDC and the valve will only drop a few tho in the hole and rest on the piston. You could also put shop air in the GP hole if you were really worried about it.

It was me.:D. No problem to do valvesprings in the truck. Have someone roll the engine over by hand till the piston is at tdc, and the valve will only drop about 1/8 inch. Just make sure you have plenty of rags to stuff in the drain holes in the head. Dont want to go dropping keepers down in there. Snap on makes a nice spring compressor tool. Its tight on the passenger side rear two cylinders, but not too bad. I did mine with the injectors out, so I just took a screwdriver and held on top of the piston to find TDC as we rolled it slowly. If you need pics pm me.

Bunting, I'll be calling in the next few weeks to discuss the TN options so I can figure out what I want to do. The injector expense was a little unplanned, so the wallet needs to recover before I can buy a turbo. Just have to watch my EGT's for now with the van turbo.

Joey, I'd love to have twins, but I don't think I can afford them at the moment. It's something I'm looking into for next summer, but I don't think the time is right to do it now.

After the pain of installing head studs, I'm not looking forward to laying on that topside creeper again to install some springs. :(

Joey, you're right, I should have done them when I had all the stuff apart. Hindsight.....
