well i hope i dont come off like i am on crack
but my turbo noise changed tonight while driving in town and i wonder if it is for the worst or not

i always had turbo wine(bark?) after the get of the accelerator
i has always been a more of a whistle thou
but tonight i dont know what it is, but the sound changed
went from whistle to more of a draggy wine/moany thing (very reminds me of the holset on my 12 valve when i would get out of her real quick after hard acceleration)
what am i to make of this?

alright just got back for a quick drive
under acceleration this thing is just screaming (i have never heard this much noise in the cab before) very rasping whine
could my wastegate be stuck closed or something?

i am pretty sure this noise is not a good thing

any help?

I second that. Take you air intake hose off and check for side to side and in and out play on impeller

Are you seeing any increase in EGT’s or a drop in Boost pressure 2 to 3 pounds? What was the out side temp there? Was the truck cold when said problem started? Your EBPV could be stuck closed.

i guess i am out of ideas and i dont have a diesel shop around here that knows sh** so i guess i will just have to drive it cuz i dont know where to go from here:confused:

comin from turbo for sure disabled wastegate --no boost=no scream
new wastegate same thing
what is the electronic sensor the the vacuum line(red line) from the actuator is connected to? could this be the problem?
red line connects next to green vacuum line

Have you checked for boost leaks? I heard one with a leaking boot that sounded like a modded H2e, and it turned out to be the cac boot on the pass side leaking pretty bad. If your still running stock turbo it would probly still make plenty of boost. I 'd say check em all first.

checked her all over and can find any leaks and no leaky boots

under acceleration you can just here this thing go go and go-it just keeps spoolin higher and higher, and there is no release of pressure and between shifts it will shudder

Did you by chance check for "in and out" play with the turbo shaft?

Also did you just check the boot clamps for leaks? I found a cracked boot on my truck a while back on the hot side CAC tubes. Didn't see it until I removed the boot off the tube, but I knew I had a leak somewhere.

One more thing, check the up-pipes and exhaust manifolds for an exhaust leak.
